November 27, 2008. I remember it like it was yesterday. There I was playing FS, minding my own business, when something, or should I say things, caught my eye. There were referral links for a new game all over the shoutbox. "Why aren't these people banned?" I asked myself.

After a minute of research, I find its a new HCS game, unannounced by the company. I could hardly wait to check it out. I sign up minutes later, and start blasting through levels. "Amazing! It appears to run on the same engine as FS, but from level 1, I can TELL this is a completely different game. Each mission is filled with well though out story lines, and semi complex instructions. Free, free at last from the monotony of 1,2,3,r."

--------------------------

I continued leveling to my heart's content for the next week, just staying inside the top100. I was like a kid in a candy store soaking in each new level and mission, delighted to see more missions that were challenging and rewarding.

Sand Lurkers and Proto Stim Warriors threatened to destroy me along my quest for power, but with the help of my brave faction mates, we were successful in slaying the beasts.

As the toxic radiation filling the land subsided, I and many of my fellow adventurers were pleasantly surprised with more and more challenging missions and fiercer beasts to be slain. I still remember killing Sharona Rai for the first time, and the huge sense of accomplishment that came with it, after failing so many times. I ventured on, eager for my next challenge....

...

..

Then one day, everything changed. It seems I am a different sort of adventurer than most. The peoples of the land grumbled and whined. "Oh gods" they proclaimed "Why do you force us to use our brains to succeed?? We are but lowly worms who can only kill hundreds of monsters, but only if the monsters are killable with this gear we found in the dumpster behind the market! And how on earth can we ever kill these elite monsters? The people with working brains kill over half of them, and the ones that are left beat me up and made me cry (sadface)"

The gods heard the pleas of their people, and from that day forth, vowed to never make another challenge in the game. All the greatest monsters in the world were turned into pale shadows of the mighty beasts they once were. The gods also caused these weakened beasts to flourish and multiply, so EVERYONE could take delight in killing them. Heck, even my stable boy who could hardly lift a sword has slain his fair share.

With all the glory of killing elite monsters gone, I continued my journey, hoping to find some people I could help out. Two guys needed me to kill an MD1 elite, which I actually did in my sleep, funny story - I decided to take rest from a not-so-hard day's work. There I was, fast asleep by the fire, when one of these lumbering robots tried to attack me. Dumb thing tripped over my leg and fell in the fire, frying his circuitry. "Maybe the next one I'll get dressed for" I thought to myself. I wondered to myself, why both of these men were offering such great rewards for killing a monster my little sister could kill, but hey, xp is xp.

After accepting the next two missions, I'm really starting to think something is wrong with this new world I am exploring. Both people gave me xp for giving them items I found on my way to talk to them. Some guy lost a delivery not that I found 3 of before I even knew he lost them. I now understand the words of my friends that have already left this world. There is nothing more here for a glory seeker. I feel more like a stamp collector than a warrior. Rather than reminiscing about the fierce battles we have fought, we all sit around showing off our shiny toys, that took no effort to collect.

----------------------

I can TELL this is a completely different game

boy was I wrong.

I'm hoping the above lets people see where I'm coming from, but I doubt it at this point. If you don't want to read all of that, here are my main gripes.

1) New missions are heading in the direction of FS. After waiting weeks for content, I would expect slightly more than "bring me a drop from that common monster over there"
2) The nerfing of elites - This is a big one with me.. Killing elites was one of the last challenges for me. no challenge = no fun. Also, within a month every set will be pretty much free, further reducing any challenge that was left in the game***
3) Can we get a new weapon add-on or helmet add-on? I'm pretty sick of en-Kr5 and scout scope, which I"ve been using for about a month

I've seen a LOT of people leave over #1 and #2, and also because they got sick of waiting for content. PLEASE HCS, ask yourself why you would want to play this game when, not only could an orangutan play the game, he would be waiting on content as well...

Please review your original game plan for the game(I KNOW level 40-50 is not what you had in mind on 11/27/08), wipe from your memory all the whining about the game is too hard, and make any new content closer to level 1-10, than 40-50. Also, unnerfing the elites would be super, and a happy medium between current spawns and 3/hr is much needed.

*** So stop feeding crystals to all the top50 players buying the level 50 sets, if you wait 2 weeks you'll be able to farm them yourselves, and you won't have bought someone a permanent spot in the top50

Good post, especially concerning the "hardness" of the game. I think its a great fault on the game developers side to always listen to the players and always do what theyre asked for. And yes - make the game a challange, not a chore.

Much as I hated early "revenge of g27", looking back, it was something of an accomplishment to figure out and finish in the first week. I do agree that things have gone too far the other way now. elite should require a group to kill. 3 man with some ff'd items. now, anyone with full ff'd kit can kill an elite without even thinking.

and yes, the quest have become more generic. (that is tough to come up with in a hurry) frankly, I love multi level quest. they could easily make quest that takes 2 or 3 levels to accomplish. that would be cool.

only big issue was "escape from the mine" where they ought to have known that there will be several hundred people waiting for new content. they could have made separate elite kill for this quest that did not have a drop, in the side area. this could have been just a very tough elite with no drop.

generally, I think elite should be tough. i can live with larger number spawned if likelyhood of drops is low and they need a group to kill. since we are having 6x the number, just decrease the likelihood of drops to 1/5 or so. (since it takes more energy to kill more of them) generally though, elite sets are status symbol anyway. even HK is no better than elite. :) so, my only complaint is that elites are too wimpy.

Yes, and poor planning(making it required to advance) was only compounded by increasing the spawn(which destroyed the market for elite armor)

Although if there wasn't a bottleneck of players in the first place, it wouldn't have been a problem, but since it seems we will always have a bottleneck of players(already 65 people at level 50+), they just need to NOT have any missions tied to an elite required to advance. Leave the elite missions as an added bonus for people who like a challenge.(although if they don't un-nerf elites, what's the point?)

What they SHOULD do (and I apologize to all the high level players for this), is make missions requiring finding common items and extracting them, assembling, etc(similar to thermal dessicator). Make THESE missions required to advance. This will slow the rate of all the sub levelers, and noone can complain that they "can't" advance. They will have to spend 400-500 stamina on each level completing the mission and everyone else will do this while they level, not sublevel

i was much more a fan of the Revenge of the G27's style mission than the the shot-down-professor-plane "mission"... i got the item required for on the way to the bleeding mission hook!

i really feel like cows started with an excellent game and has progressively weakened, nerfed, and bread-and-circuses'ed it into a somewhat mediocre game.

i was actually working on a suggestion to really make squads interesting... but now there is no point in having squads at all. it is just a waste of everyone's energy. i think i solo'ed something like 6 or 7 of the MD1 elites when they very first came out... without having to repair or use cloners in between!

please please please cows.... make at least some of the missions really challenging. the sense of fulfillment and reward i got for finishing' RotG27's was probably the best i have gotten yet. the feeling i got when i precompleted that professor mission was much closer to a vague embarrassment than anything

I AGREE!!!!!

I mean seriously I was upset when sharona's stats were changed with no notice. Yea MD1 spawn should probably be more frequent as we can't continue playing without it, don't know why it had to change all the others though. I guess I'm just not seeing the point exactly. I mean if this game is going to be exactly like FS, then whats the point? I mean I could go play FS to my heart's content with an already maxed stam gain, maxed xp gain and all the buffs I've come to love. Not to mention the fact that the odds of me running out of content there are about as high as the odds of me making the same kind of FC off the lvl 50 elite as I did off sharona.

oh, and by my count there are 10 weapon add ons and 8 helmet add ons (and at least two of the helmet AO's are for borgs only!)

i would really have liked to see more than four main equipment slots being catered to

edit:
whoops, i missed a HAO. i corrected the number now

Yeah I would agree on the easiness of the elites now. They're incredibly easy to kill, and definitely should not be.

I am however glad at the increased spawns of elites, my connection is terminably slow, which made it all but impossible to find one of the 3 spawns an hour and kill it.

Having made the elites that much more common, they should make them that much harder to kill. Seems fair to me. Makes it a trade off, and it means someone can't just go around and swat 4 or 5 elite spawns every 10 minutes without some very careful planning and squad making. Bring on the uber-elites!

I agree that a challenge is great, even having to think strategically to accomplish a mission is great....BUT, Ive killed 40, yes 40!!!! Sharona Rai Elites and got 3 lousy drops! And this is using various degrees of FI. I dont consider this a challenge, more like a complete waste of time! For those worrying about the elite sets becoming too common, I dont think that is a concern. Yes, there are more elites to hunt but also more people hunting them. It took me a full week of me hunting and 2 faction mates helping just to make ONE elite set. Not impressed at all! :x

Just what I was thinking, when you are in a small faction with nothing maxed out or fully upgraded, then the game is a challenge. I get asked every day to join higher up factions; they never mension "role-play", just we have everything maxed out and all Elite sets fully forged - no wonder it's easy for them!, they are there own worst enemys in my eyes.

Complaining is complaining...some wants easier elites some want difficult ones but the argument that "HC team should not listen to complains" that you used, is applying to this kind of complain also.

1.So they will make higher stats elite..what is the difficulty in that because all of you can make a strong group with a click of a mouse? Are any of you in poor faction with only 3 people in squads or on your own? I believe not..the only difficulty will be that you click the squad button before the hunt.....

2.So the price of elite set will drop...so ?These sets are not common, you can't buy them from the store ,you must hunt elite's for them so their definition is correct.
In FS how many players hunts without elite's or SE sets? Almost none and that is how is going to be here.
"An elite set should be a sign of your status" ....what status ?Is there a contest for academic achievements here? All our status is players in a free browser game. What difference makes to you if only 100 people in the game can have them or 1000 people? Or are you just upset that you are not the only 100? :)

I simply miss the imagination behind the Revenge of G27 and the more intricate plot that it had, the best mission in the game until now.

Actually requiring a good group to kill an Elite will have large impact. Not just click a button but get people to join. It would spread the kills out among more people (this might actually reduce the need for major spawn rates). When the level 26 Elite came out we (faction) died a bunch of times and expanded our squad size. This was a welcome challenge. I guess we should have know that couldn't last but.... All the Elites can be killed without ff'd gear and without any need for a squad now. That is not an Elite. Other than the higher xp I see nothing Elite about any Elite in the game. The HK is a joke too.

I agree with the OP here. This game was a challenge. It was actually possible to (gasp) fail at a mission if you didn't set yourself up right. The problem? The people who want the cheat code for the game screamed and cried until the changes were made. For all you "free" players, this game only exists as long as donations happen. At the current rate/direction of this game I predict that dries up fast. You think fc are expensive now....

As an aside. What happened to the promise that ranged weapons would have higher damage to offset the cost/inconvenience of ammo (and stackable ammo)? Again, those who choose to hunt the more difficult way are penalized. Level 46 mutant weapon over 100 damage while the level 48 rifle 93. So much for making it possible to play the game in a more difficult way with slight advantages. This will be a game of all mutants that can hunt with repair kits and solo all Elite and HK. Even FS, which is watered down, doesn't have that problem. Not a good change last 2 weeks HCS.

All complaints are not equal. Complaining that the game is too hard because you can't kill an elite after spending a total of 5 hours playing the game is NOT the same as complaining about the game changing from being somewhat challenging, to complete vanilla monotony. But I didn't say those people shouldn't complain or that HCS shouldn't listen to them, I just stated that people complained about the difficulty of the game, and HCS nerfed every last aspect of the game that anyone could consider even remotely challenging.

1.So they will make higher stats elite..what is the difficulty in that because all of you can make a strong group with a click of a mouse? Are any of you in poor faction with only 3 people in squads or on your own? I believe not..the only difficulty will be that you click the squad button before the hunt.....

When Sharona was released, I was in a top 20 guild and we couldn't kill her with a "strong group." But the difference is this is an MMORPG. For me the only "multiplayer" part is by choice, I could easily have gotten to this same point without talking to a single other player. YOU SHOULD HAVE TO DEPEND ON OTHER PLAYERS TO SUCCEED. Also - if every elite is killable without upgrading groups, why would people upgrade groups - if nobody upgrades, nobody will buy FC - if nobody buys FC, you don't have a game to play

2.So the price of elite set will drop...so ?These sets are not common, you can't buy them from the store ,you must hunt elite's for them so their definition is correct.

I just assembled my first jargronesh set because it looks cool. If I see you wearing a set, usually only one thing runs through my head - "more money than brains."

Again, the problem with everyone being able to afford an elite set, is that the incentive to donate for crystals, has again been reduced. Anyone can go hunt any elite set they want, with ZERO challenge.

I simply miss the imagination behind the Revenge of G27 and the more intricate plot that it had, the best mission in the game until now.

Hey! We agree on something! Yay!
