ok im not a forum junkie so this may have been brought up already.
But my problem is when trying to make a gear set up it seems that no matter how much Armour I have it seems completely ineffective.
I have been trying to kill creatures with something like 85 damage while I have 250 armour, and yet I still die frequently and lose big chunks of my hit points with fresh repaired gear.
I have always thought that if you have your armour higher than a creatures dammage, they cant inflict serious damage excepting a piercing strike.
That is how I used to set up in FS and it worked well, so I was wondering if the mechanics have been changed for this game?
An explanation please

Yes.
For the most part anyway...If your armor happens to dip below their damage then you'll see a difference. But since they've made almost all of the gear armor heavy, you will rarely have to worry about that.

defense and your damage resistance to the type of damage the mobs do help alot

It is always handy to have health incase the monster get through your armor (there is always a chance they will as this is not Fallen Sword) that way you can take a couple of hits without dying with one strike.

In this game, all monsters and players do at least a minimum damage as long as they get past ur defense, even if the attacker's damage is less than the defender's armor. That damage amount is increased if the attacker's damage is higher than the defender's armor, and is reduced if the defender has any resistance to that type of damage. The higher the resistance, the lower the damage becomes. In this game defense works a lot better than armor because if their attack doesnt get by ur defense, they miss completely and u dont hit for any damage at all. It also always helps to have enough hp to live through more than one hit though.
