This is not a rant nor am I complaining. I am just stating facts. Let the reader determine his or her own conclusions.

As of 10/10/2009 of the top 250 player’s only 162 have reached level 170. The 250th player is at L 159. Remember a few months ago that we had over 250 players be at the end of content after 3 weeks of content release? We are now at 4 weeks.

On the HCS home page the 17.12.08 up date | Sigmastorm 2 Exceeds 100,000 Players! Our post-apocalyptic role playing game Sigmastorm 2 has successfully launched less than one month ago and now exceeds 100,000 registered players!

11.03.07 | Fallen Sword Exceeds 250,000 Players!
After been launched just over 3 months ago, our latest online MMORPG FallenSword.com has expanded rapidly with many new features and weekly content updates. The community and player base for the game has also gone from strength to strength and now exceeds over 250,000 players, growing by thousands each day!

I find it interesting that the number of online players in SSII is in the 200 to 250 area and sometimes fall to well below 200. FS had 1,996 when I just logged on 10/10/2009.

I find it becoming more and more difficult to take in new Level 1-5 players and get them to level past level 30 without quitting. To get a player to level 100 and keep them interested in the game is a real challenge.

The problem is not the slow releasing of content. There is something about the game that is not making it grow like FS grew. There are very few “diehard” players left in the game and they are dwindling every day.

In the other game my level is 278 and I have not played since November 2008. My XP gain per hour is 15,024 so I gain 260,576 XP in 24 hours. In the last 24 hours I have moved up 31 spots and I am now ranked 5,588. I think it is quite funny that I am moving up in rank with just my XP gain.

The HCS home page has not been updated since 03.10.08 | 14th Team Member!
We're a little slow with this update, however we're pleased to officially announce that we have another new member to the Hunted Cow Team - you can check out her profile (Zaelin)

What happened to Eldevin that is due for release in 2009? Last update I see on that web site is April 2009.

What fate is before SSII?

While on the surface such information can be interpreted as a negative. General conclusions can not be draw with out more data. Gamers as a group can be divided up partially by age group and some what by language and income.

Gamers in the 16 and lower class as a group tend to try every game that they find. Very few are willing to wait for energy every day before they move on to a game that is more what I call instant gratification. These make up a large percentage of the players that register on any game. And make up the lower levels of the player base.

The next group is the college age group. Usually have very little money to spend on equipment and upgrades. They are more into hanging with friends than actually gaining levels. They tend to log in play a little and chat with friends. This group makes up most of the mid range of the player base.

After that is the player group that makes up the majority of the player base. They spend some on upgrades and equipment. Logging in to chat with friends and faction mates. Are usually very loyal to their faction. But are not driven to reach the top of the game. They play to relax and kill time.

Last is the players who by nature strive to be on top. These usually make up the top of the player base. They are usually the most vocal about what they like or dislike.

Every group plays for different reasons. And stay or move on depending on what they perceive as important to them. As a rule the more challenging a game is, the smaller the active player base will be. When this game has been around as long as FS. The player base will still be smaller due to the more challenging nature of the game. Retaining players will always be a challenge due to the more difficult nature of game play and the language barrier. A built in translator for the game might help some with that issue..

and he stayed at the holiday inn express last night :D

challenging game seems to draw older player base and they tend to donate more than younger crowd. younger crowd are more into PVP aspect of gaming.

Makes me think of how difficult it is for a small company to make a good game product, keep it growing and eventually turn a profit. If their niche is listening to players I contend they've gotten away from it. Something has given way. I won't get into my hypotheses(Hoof?). They put out a good product and is in no way a slight on any staff. It just makes me feel sorry for them. I would get nothing but enjoyment singing praises about the game. Imagine the forums filled with woots and great job like the Accomplishment section should be for players. They are there just drowned out by plenty of player discontent. Wouldn't be easy taking a huge player base from their sister game, FS. There are too many experienced gamers to the HCS mechanics and internet games. It's obvious FS is paying the bills. I'm not buying into all the typical marketing hype. A disallowed/impolite 4-letter word would best describe it. Tell it to someone who hasn't been playing FS for nearly two years and Sigma for nearly one year.

As for who plays...

This is the market I'm in. I'd only add they are more particular when it comes to donating disposable income because it's money they earned.

My two...
