I love the top-down/isometric viewpoint... my only request is to be able to pull out even further. Currently, it feels a little too close.

After a few hours of playing with it, I'm use to it and don't mind the top-down view. But zooming out even more would be nice :P

As it is now, the top down view is best for most things (except those doors!)  but I agree 100%, being able to zoom out more would be a great improvement.  that might be a better and easier to implement option that increasing the view angle.

Definitely +1 on the doors. Being able to click the door from both sides, and/or adding a clickable zone on top of the doors (where they are covered) would be excellent.

yep, only had time to do the intro while at work and couldn't see in front of my guy to see where I was going.

I'll play more with the camera angle when I play from home tonight.

Actually, maybe that being able to zoom-out even more would indeed reduce the "claustrophobic" feeling I get at the moment. It is not a bad idea at all and could be a lot simpler to implement. Not sure it would solve everything, but I think it is worth a try.

Good idea, deadite.

Thinking about it a little more, I'm not sure if it's actually the zoom level or just the fact that we're playing in a square window right now. Seeing the game in fullscreen mode at the current zoom level might be enough to make it feel a little less tight.

Won't it be possible for people to manually enable/disable the possibility that the camera goes low? Those who have trouble with performance on their computers may want to disable it, while those with no performance issues may want to enable it.

The ones with performance issues might even decide to lower the frame rate in favour of having a lower camera position, but that's their choice of course. :)

Maybe the problems would be related to the engine itself, causing crashes or something. let's wait for a proper fix instead.

I do agree, it would be nice to see more in front of you when you are walking, it would also show off the games artwork better I reckon  :)

Viewing angle has a dramatic affect on performance. Every degree of viewing angle added gives an exponential increase of polygons in view, which slows the game down. What we have now is pretty much a "tipping point" with significant performance loss for adding more angle, for little added benefit. Until we add hardware support later down the line the viewing angle will have to remain the same for now.

Zooming out a bit more will give everyone a slight performance hit too, but nowhere near as much as changing viewing angle. It's something we could definitely increase, I'll look into it for you guys.

Please also remember this game was built as a top-down point-and-click RPG, so our 3d content was designed and created with this in mind. The game will likely never have an over-the-shoulder 3rd person view with WASD movement. Like I said before though, this may change once we add hardware support.

Game ruining camera axis for me. Was really enjoying the game itself but I refuse to run around viewing things as if I AM a camera myself. No thanks.

Would it be possible to change the keys for zoom and angle around, that way you can keep you hand/fingers on the wasd keys and be able to control the rotate and angle. Zoom is easy to do on the mouse.

TBH I'd rather have an option that auto tilts the camera back down. I often find myself looking at my character in a top down view.  The tower in Othalo being a good example.

Some sort of restore-to-user-position option might be nice for that. In that particular instance I think the door is putting players outside a bit close to the wall so the camera collision is getting all up in their face ;) I've shifted it out a little.

I agree with this. If we could zoom out more it would be a lot nicer.

This is needed. Took me 7 or 8 tries to figure out how to realize I had to rotate the view to get through the portal in Othalo tower.

I mainly want an option to freeze the view one way or another, preferably a nice, steep isometric view. I'm constantly getting flipped around on accident.

I agree the camera angle needs tweaking, also would be nice if the map would spin around with the screen maybe?

Yeah, that's a good one. I keep getting confused as to which direction I'm going.

The camera angle takes some getting used to, but if we're never going to have the "over the shoulder" view then I'll be able to live with it.  for those who are having difficulty clicking on the doors when you're in the zoomed out mode, I discovered it's very easy to locate the "clickable" portion of the door from above if you just zoom in.  You don't always have to swing the camera around and click on the front of the door.  Zooming in makes the click area larger. Good luck everyone and thanks HCS.
