I completely agree, the Xp gained from foraging is the same, a level 5 foraging item only gives 1 more Xp than any level 1 item.
Far better to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a grey twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.

I agree that the farming needs to be more streamlined. Not necessarily in the way you described, but possibly making it so you don't actually need to choose the scarecrow, compost and crop dust. Not sure if HCS plan on integrating more than one type of these, if they do it will make it slightly harder. But yeah, I agree, some kind of improvement to the farming would be needed in one way or another.

agree, i guess, for now i just buy what ever gear/potions or stuff i need for quests.
eventually it might be profitable to at least be able to make my own potions and gear but it is too time consuming to level up in skills and professions and much less fun then quests or killing beasties.

I would also like to make my own potions. But the problem is the foraging, it takes LONG time to level it up, and is really hard since the trees/bushes that you can forage are scattered everywhere and you have to walk for minutes to find something that you can forage. So yeah with foraging being hard, it also makes alchemy hard.

I left out foraging because I had mixed feeling about it. It's easy to grind weeds in the beetle cave to hit tier 2, and doesn't take very long. With the excess weed, just purchasing green apples and turning in the alchemy repeatable quest 1 will not only boost your alchemy levels quickly but acutally give you a monetary profit. If you run out of weeds, repeat the beetle cave harvest and next buy lime and void shrooms at a 2:1 ratio and grind out the alchemy tier 2 repeat for another profit.
Should be close to tier 2 foraging at which point the shaker plants and tiger shrooms can be farmed from Mystic Camp in north eastern Barren Trail. Red apples drop frequently from the large insects nearby (flayers?). I went ahead and did the alchemy repeat quests 3 and 4 grinding those shaker bushes and just purchased whatever ingredients I needed until hitting alchemy 12. To level the new tier of potions required foraging 10, but since I had been supplementing my gathering by purchasing mats I lagged behind and have to grind out 3 levels of foraging.
I withheld foraging feedback originally because I figured- had I gathered those apples/shrooms/lemons instead of buying them it probably would've bumped me up closer to the next tier leaving a more manageable grind.
I really like the progression in cooking and alchemy, and find the end products most useful.
The rest of crafting professions I've dabbled in are disappointing. Massive grinds of junk that just gets vendored because quest rewards or spending an hour farming a dungeon provides you with superior gear. Maybe it becomes worthwhile 31+ when you can craft set gear, but so far I'm not impressed. I left out crafting from my original post because I don't have constructive feedback yet.

Skinning progression is in dire need of re-evaluation. There is only moderate grinding required to hit tier 2 (lvl 6 skinning for the pigs at Northam Farm) which is easily accomplished with the plentiful nearby Shigra. The next tier jump occurs at level 17 when the Thorned Basilisk needs level 18 skinning. The problem is that the reward for skinning a level 16 Wild Shigra is only 4/5 exp (same as skinning a level 1 chicken). My character is level 20 and my skinning is level 7.I haven't spent any focused time grinding skinning since level 6 beyond what beasts cross my path and now the thought of grinding 11 skinning levels at 4/5 (maybe less?) experience per attempt is enough for me to realize there is a serious problem with skinning progression.I would like to see the experience per skin tied to the monster level instead of a flat amount per tier.--------I have the same issue with forestry. The first tier is composed of 4 types of Pynwood trees and they all give 4/5 exp per chop. In addition, the trees are spread out far enough that I find it impractical to focus on grinding this skill.I have noticed a couple areas with 2-4 trees in close proximity, but the long respawn timer makes the process feel terribly unrewarding (compared to say, fishing where one pond has a near-endless supply of fish between two nodes). I would like to see the Yellow Pynwood (located near level 16+ mobs) give more experience than the trees in lower level areas such as Othalo. There are four Yellow Pynwoods that grow near the Arcane Council Sanctum, and these should be swapped for a lower level tree.--------Fishing has a satisfactory amount of grind where the next tier provides more experience at acceptable intervals. When Stickleback started giving 4/5 exp at level 5 fishing I moved on to Trout and those gave 7ish with a constant node available alternating between 2. Maybe it falls off later and becomes tedious, but so far I am most pleased with fishing progression (currently level 7).--------Prospecting was a royal pain until I realized there was a mine in Othalo, at which point it became effortless to bang out 100's of copper bars. Picking away in a corner of that mine for a couple hours reminded me of Runescape in a fond, nostalgic way. Not sure about progression beyond the first tier, I would hope bronze gives more than 4/5 exp per swing though.--------Farming I would like to see streamlined. There should be less mindless steps in preparation and more focus placed on tending the crops as they mature to harvest. I would like to see a window with room for scarecrow, compost, crop dust, seeds, and water (all one step). After confirmation the character would go through the animations of the provided components (ie. place scarecrow, then spread compost, skip crop dust cause none was provided, plant seed, water crop). The main idea being that this process should be condensed into one long animation bar instead of tediously breaking up each component into its own three-step ordeal.I get no enjoyment from repeating endless robotic menu operations- the fun part of farming in Eldevin is watching the crops go through the maturation process and pruning away the disease. If you were to shift the focus towards tending the crops, I would like to see more reason to examine as the field grows. Make the player go through meaningful decisions that affect the yield. So far, I have never had to water my crops more than once- so I quit examining the crops and the whole process became mindless menu operations with a possible pruning. I want to be checking water consumption in addition to warding disease. Water consumption could be tied into the randomness of the yield so that if the field was producing 16, it drinks up 1 serving; but if it would output 19+ it drinks 2 servings (numbers are before scarecrow bonus). Producing a rare could drink up 3 servings so the player gets excited during the growth process, and that elation is extended until harvest when the rare is looted.I also find it annoying that buckets can hold up to 50 items, but when making compost the recipe requires 1 bucket per 3 manure producing 10 compost (enough for 2 uses...). I would like to be able to fill the bucket up to 50 if I have the necessary 15 turds, instead of running back and forth between the compost bin every 2 farms.

A nice evaluation of most of the gathering skills, and I agree on most of your points.
The professions are pretty much on target, some just need that small experience tweak to be perfect. Farming is tedious, it's meant to be. But it should give slightly more experience or an easier way of handling the "component addition . As you mention a screen of some kind for all the additional components would be much more satisfying.
I think currently HCS are aiming at making professions, earned work. The small experience rates are fine on I'd say half of the professions, but some need that extra increase.

I made it a point to forage every weed, void mushroom, green apple, and lime that I saw while leveling. And yet, green apples and limes were replaced by red apples and lemons long before I reached foraging level 5. I had to grind out a lot of mushrooms and weeds in the city. IMO there should be an orchard or something in the city or near the city...

Beetle cave has endless amount of weed nodes. The forest that wraps around Northam Church is an amazing location to skill forestry and forage. Also, you can buy fruit from the market in Eldevin City and grind the foraging repeatables basically leveling your skill with coin instead of fieldwork. I sit in that cave until my foraging is level 5 then continue my adventure.
As Neon stated above, the gathering and crafting professions take some dedication...beyond what you will encounter on your questing path.
I actually don't mind the progression as much after the wipe now that I found some good farming spots.
(except skinning, dreading grinding from 8 to 18 - anyone know where an Apprentice Skinning Trainer is hiding?)

There is a skinning trainer inside one of the buildings on "Everdusk Isle" (not sure of the name there) but you get to it from harbor east of Mythos.

It does take some grinding but after a few nights of foraging .. you will be pretty high. There are worse ones ...
Some of grinding has been reduced though. Most of the gathering experience has gone up 5-15x from what it was before. Trees are still a pain to find a good amount of.

Foraging Level 21 .. Almost 22. A Long Grind Indeed. Pack full of Oranges, Pokeweed, and Blueberries make for a good amount of money tho. Trying to get to level 24 for Bananas, and some others I've forgotten.
