Cauterize is too powerful with 0 talent points invested.  I suggest the following changes:

*Cooldown lengthened from 5 seconds to 20 seconds.

*Heals for 400% spell dps reduced to 200%.

*Change prophet talent Expunge to increase Cauterize's healing by 50/ 100% spell dps, and reduce it's cooldown by 5/ 10 seconds.  <Sealed Wounds> remains unchanged.

-------

Goal of changes:

-Reduce ability of non-prophet builds to cover role of healer effectively.  Templar/Warrior/Assassin spamming Cauterize every few seconds for 1.2k health (about 30% max hp) etc.

-Allow for Revitalize to remain relevant in heal rotations (currently made obsolete at level 14).

I have gone all out mage dps and pretty much put all my points into sorcery and every talent point so far into mage stuff.

I can pretty much instant full heal myself at lvl 23 with cauterize every time its ready.  I definitely agree is overpowered.  All i need is mana pots and i'm pretty much invincible if i dont die before cauterize cooldown is over.

We talked with Mojawk about this the other day.
Not sure how they will do but he gave a suggestion himself :P

-Lowering the healing power.

-Add another talent (far down the tree). To make it more powerful at high level.

-Higher Mana cost

-Somewhat higher CD

I would like to add Cauterize in the Prophet Tree (and remove from Combat Trainers. That way only the Prophet will be able to use it.

And set it somewhere around 9 or 12 Talent Points mark.

Expunge: I think its good at it is. But not as Cauterize works now. You get a constant 5/10% shield on you.

20s Cooldown: I'm not sure that even a Prophet would be able to heal the team at Ohdar Scar bosses. Max set at 10s cooldown.

Zook, are you factoring in haste?

At the low end, 30% haste would make it 7 second cooldown for Prophet, with assassin 10% buff- 6 seconds.

For a Mage 50% haste is easily obtainable (18% from first tier of talents) making that 20 second cooldown actually 15 seconds.

*edit- new build has it at 45 seconds cooldown...oh my

I totally forgot about haste. Good point.

and yeah 45s.. oh my

Not sure even a Prophet can do its job properly with that.

-Lower cooldown

-Lower power

Your 20s soudns good now :P

200% Spell DPS with a skill that upgrades it later on.

Just curious, how many of you have played with an actual prophet? I mean someone who has actually put all his points in that talent tree? The top level instances should require a decent healer. We don't want to create a game where the prophet serves no purpose.

Granted it was a big nerf, but we want to see how it affects the game balance and we wanted to fix it in this build quickly. We already have plans in place to tweak cauterize a little more based on suggestions etc.

its to powerfull for a low level player but imagine cauterize at level 50 how much healing it will give

We've spoke internally before about giving the healing spells a base heal value + %, which we might consider again at some point. Most healing spells really pick up at the high end, especially towards 50. Spells like revitalize do too little healing in my personal opinion at lower levels.

In this new build, I've pretty much swapped Revitalize in place of Cauterize in my rotation.  Soloing normal quests as full prophet is still quite comfortable.

I will probably respec out of Expunge since Cauterize is more of an "oh sh.." button now, but healing should be a more active task for dungeons now (which I like).

The thing about spamming Revitalizes in place of Cauterize is that due to the talent Salvation, the Redeemed debuff drops off faster so there is no bubble downtime.  With improved bubble (40% damage reduction, 3% max health healed per second) healing a tank templar should be no different than before this recent nerf to Cauterize.

I almost never had to use Cauterize on the tank Orlac , i saved it for healing myself in a panic (which it should still fill that role).

Dogma was my main heal for the tank, and I really wish Salvation (10/20% damage reduction due to Expunge) functioned with Dogma instead of Cauterize.

I play prophet mainly, and I gotta say I like it.  I never run out of mana and used to be that I just popped cauterize when I was at like 25% hp...I'm not sure, but 45sec seems a bit long, but I'll have to check.  Except on bosses I never used cauterize that much anyways,  I usually only get hit like once or twice before the mobs die :)
