Basically, if you are one hit killing creatures, then that is the best setup.
So if you keep missing, go for the higher attack item.
If you hit every time but don't take off all the hp, then go for the higher damage.
As far as enhancements go, much the same applies. If your weapon isn't strong enough to kill creatures in one go most of the time, you are wasting stamina, and that slim chance of critical hit is no use really.
It might be different if you do a lot of PvP, I don't bother much myself....
How do you figure relative usefulness of various equipments?

My rule of thumb is damage bonus beats all. I'll take a knock on any stat to increase either attack or damage.
EDIT: just noticed the bit at the bottom....yeah, that's true. If you don't want to lose at PvP, then definitely keep defence and armour high. For creature killing, they really don't matter tbh.
In your example, purple death>bronze hauberk.

*some* people have a concept
well i have invested all my stat points in attack and got rage100. so, basicaly, i dont need attack on items. i can concentrate even further on damage.
so it would be damage>attack>everything else

Another point to consider when deciding what gear to use is to also weigh the benefits of certain skills when used in conjunction with your guild's structures. High att/dmg is good but I would prefer say an att/dmg of 200/200 with 75% critical/piercing over 250/att/dmg and say 20% crit/piercing. Another point is also you should start thinking about having two sets of gear: one for your spawn hunting and another for tank/def mode when logging off. It is possible to do with only a few backpack slots and a high def/armor is a good deterrent against pkers looking for an easy kill (not always, but usually the case).

yeah, but if you have low gold, and they see that they can be killed back, that is just as much of a deterrent in my books...
