FSP are how the game is funded.
if you give them out for free (buying with in-game gold is still for free), how will HCS get the money to run the game and feed their families?

Support FallenSword so that we can all keep playing!

Buy FSP with real money (or credit card, etc) or buy from players who have purchased FSP. Feel free to also try the "Free FSP offers" when and where available, since that too turns into cash support for FallenSword.

I agree that prices are getting a bit high when buying from players, but perhaps that could be better remedied if there were an easier means of buying a selling (such as an FSP exchange auction in-game), but never, should FSP be available for purchase from within the game, for gold, from a non-player character, shop or feature.

hey man, looks like u r a FallenSword programmer    ghghghghgh

No such luck... I just like the game enough to want to see it succeed and that's not going to happen if too much is given for free and no incentive to support.

if HCS doesn't make money, they can't support the servers, and we can't play the game...

if FSP are as extremely overpriced as lots of ppl seem to think, why dont more ppl buy them and sell them for gold?
there doesn't need to be anything to keep the price low - if it gets high enuf, ppl will buy them, meaning more FSPs and a lower price

it works on supply vs. demand.

low supply and big demand causes prices to rise, as the few sellers get the best price they can, and the many sellers compete with each other.

this means that the ppl on the supply side get a lot of money, which tempts some people to join them. this eventually causes either a state of relative equilibrium, where the price stays level and both sides are happy, or:
big supply and low demand - causes the prices to drop, as the few sellers compete, and the many buyers try to get the best price they can.

this means the ppl on the supply side get less money, and some of them stop supplying.
this can either get into the semi-equilibrium described above, or back to low supply big demand, and it goes round in a big circle...

of course, there are factors such as inflation that make the FSPs gradually rise despite this, which is why money sinks are needed. money sinks (guild structures, item repairs, buying items from shops, losing in PVP and to monsters) tries to slow inflation. it is never going to completely stop it without affecting the enjoyment and of one group of people.

if inflation does get too high, more money sinks are added.
when it reaches the point that low lvls really struggle to keep up, i suppose they could increase the money dropped by monsters of those levels (kind of like increasing wages of people in RL to keep up with inflation)

I still think the price is a bit high, but I do not blame those who buy and sell... The price is set by what people are willing to pay for them and that is based on availability and ease of exchange/sale...

I do believe that if there were some auction-like exchange, more people would be trying to under-cut the prices offered by others and this would bring the prices down a little... Perhaps back to what I felt was a fair price, around 7,000 gold each. When I have FSP to spare or in need of gold, I always sell a batch of 3 FSP for about 20k as a discount, or 7k each. Fortunately, due to the higher prices of others, I sell out easily and get what I want from the deal.

(Don't bother asking, I have none to sell anytime soon)

I had a post earlier, but unfortunately Fallensword (and the forums) derailed from internet traffic, but I'm determined to make a point (as usual albeit rarely :P)

Geoff, I like your economist thought on supply/demand that works as much in Fallensword as it does in real life.

I'm going to take your thought and expand upon it and that would mean that I think we need a kind of 'stock market' in Fallensword. That way the 'shout out' box would be less spammed by people buying/selling FSP's.

It would work similar to the auction house that anyone could only put FSP's on the market once or twice a day (more for an FSP cost of course :P) and when a person does that they choose between 'Low Sell' 'Standard/Normal Cell' and 'High Sell.'

So naturally people who buy and sell a lot on the 'Low Sell' would tip the prices of FSP lower than if a lot of people were to buy and sell on the 'High Sell.'

Of course the market would be influenced by the FSP's in each area.

So 5 FSP's for a 'Low Sell' of 5,000 gold each won't impact the market as greatly as someone who was selling 10 FSP's for 15,000 gold each on the 'High Sell.'

Any other thoughts?

You guys ever wonder that we do have an in-game FSP exchange service, just that its the other way around:

1 fsp - 500 gold

^_^

If you turn that around, it means 500 gold for 1 fsp, so why are everyone selling fsp for such a high price? lol...

I personally would pay 10K per fsp ^_^

Because the upgrade prices do not change to suit supply and demand. That's why there are many upgrades that are rarely if ever used.

you said big demand and little supply causes the prices to drop, then later said low supply and big demand causes prices to rise

oops lol

fixed now. i hope people still understood my point...

you could do it but make it a stupid price, like 100000 = 1fsp, that way people will have to play the game for an inhuman amout of time to get enough to do anything so people will begin to buy the fsp, and they will need it cos they play the game 24/7 :) not bad

but if it's gonna be so hard to buy them, and so high a price, why bother adding that feature at all

The point of an FSP exchange is that by making the buyers and sellers easier to find and prices listed, it would force sellers to price more competatively (lower prices) or else buyers would simply buy from somebody who's selling for less.

That's as simple as I can possibly explain it.

As I stated in a different thread...

Would you like it if everything you sold in auction could only be done for a set price?

Price fixing will NOT solve this issue. FSP prices will rise and fall with demand. At the moment, demand is high as people are trying to by fire dragon sets, darklore runes etc. If you feel a price is too high, buy elsewhere or buy direct from HCS.

The game does not suffer from an American bias. If you look at the top 50 players/guilds you will see it is multi-national.

One possible way I can see of fixing this is by making the repair prices go up as you level, because you get more gold per level... or heck, just make it so that the upper levels don't get as much gold per battle. >_>
