I agree, that having help go materialistic would be very wrong. Basically, before I cut the suggestions off, I'd said something about helper points being used to buy a free ticket for the lottos, and needing copious amounts of help points to do that. The medals on the other hand, isn't something that even would be materialistic.

The links for newbie helpers would be up by the link for the tutorial, and also one in the players box. Possibly also under the resources drop menu as well. This is what the images were for, though I should perhaps have made the actual images a bit larger. The added links would generate a list of people who had clicked their 'available to help' into an on status, perhaps including a languages indicator so people who don't speak English might be able to find someone who speaks their language, or a language they're more comfortable with to help them with the game. The idea is to supplement the forum, not replace it.

It's a nice idea, but then again there do exist guilds. If we take in a new member which isn't a high lvl, we tell them that they can ask their questions on guildchat or pm and that we have a section on our own forum worked out for them.

What i've noticed from personal experience is that alot of newbies if they ask something it's just money or fsp. I really don't mind giving people advice, but I can imagine if you get the tag of helper like is suggested here that your pm's will be full with newbies asking money and fsp or to buy their equipment.

If you want to make the tag helper it should be that it's only advice on how and what explain everything. But helping out with gold is something that the helper himself should choose.

(but there are really alot of people who need help, I even have lvl 100's ask me if they can buy ignite or dark curse. While they are making 1 hitters (no use of ignite) and have a higher attack then the creatures defense (no use of DC)).

So yes to this idea

I support it (and would like to participate) with one main condition: this tutoring/mentoring has to be completely non rewarded. No newbie points (I can imagine the adds "selling my newbie points for 1 FSP. Get your shiny medal without work". or "if you want my points, words are not enough - give me itamz"

Some people do help low levels and they always did. I can provide you with names. As long as they do not beg for gold/FSP/items I'm sure any low level player will get a decent answer from any top level one - all they had to do is ask.

You cannot formalise this sort of activity without turning it into an exploitable mechanism.

When we get the new forum this will be a lot easier to set up.
Anyone who adds a willing helper to their friends list will be able to see when they are online.

In addition: I do this anyway and wouldn't want any kind of reward etc for continuing to do so.

I like the idea. I have always been willing to help new players learn the game and have even bought items for new players. I tell them the items are a gift and I do not expect to be paid back for them and do not want them back. I would definately sign up. I enjoy helping me.

I think this should be made into a stickie.

I think this is a great idea. As it stands a lot of newbies feel a bit intimidated. I KNow I did. This was my first mmo, and I felt a bit overwhelmed, especially when it came time to pic a guild. I didn't know where to turn to for advice. The person who invited me to FS also didn't now that much. (he was in a small, failing (and now pretty much dead) guild, and had no idee there was anything more, or better guilds were easily obtainable. so I learned on my own until I was invited to TDS and accepted. Then I started getting more advice.

It would also give people some where they know they can turn when they find themselves in difficult situations. I would have loved to have someone to kinda help guide me when I woke to find myself leader of TDS. I had only been playing for 2 months, and only been assigned to the "council" for a few weeks. We were one of the lucky guilds. Many die because of such problems, or good players leave from the stress. This would give them a trusted place they can turn to for guidance and a bit of sanity.

I agree with this plan whole heartedly, and volunteer to be a helper if it is implemented. No reward needed or wanted.

I try helping new people from time to time...when bored look around and buff randomer's that was a long time ago, I stick to guild members now-struggle to have enough stam....

....anyway I help as much as I can...so one thing is this idea is nice and pretty thoughtful.

---I'm in, i'd help whenever I can and online.
