go help the noobs you brought in!

trust me, I do. I just feel bad for the ones who don't get any help from their recruiters.

in the early (beta) days of Asheron's Call, they had a system where certain volunteer players could have the designation "Advocate".
these were folks with proven knowledge of the game who worked scheduled shifts to be basically the first line of support. NOT give opinions, just try to point folks in the right direction - or at least the direction of information so they could find their own answers.
An on-line, in-game way of answering "Help! i can't repair this spine item!" or "how much is this pick axe worth?" so the HCS team can focus on the big issues (all my requested suggestions :P)

Have a link near "on-line players" for "on-line Player Advocates" a player can then click there and get some free advice. The Advocates themselves would need a check-box to flag if they were "on duty" or not. (sometimes, i need to hunt and would turn it off) Advocates would need a training session (webex?) and a basic guideline pdf. Yes, that would require a cow to admin the program but the time of one cow doing that would be significantly less that all of them having to answer the same questions over and over...so many posts in the newbie section can be answered with pasting a link to a sticky or the fsguide...

I think this might have some potential, what do the rest of you think?

Advocates were a big help near the begininning for those who didn't play the beta until their eyes bled. Thistledown had the best ones tho!

Good idea!

lol, You are kidding me! I was on the red-server (beta) which became...Thistledown :P (as Grim) served as an advocate there for over a year...

I think it is a great idea and if offered the chance to be a newbie helper I would take the opportunity to help a new player learn to play the game and help them understand the game rules.

just a few more thoughts on this...

advocates/helpers ought to have an irc/IM network - if somebody asks you a question you don't know the answer to, a "hmm..don't know that one, let me ask around and Find you an answer..."

advocates/helpers should be required to agree to a very specific code of conduct over and above the fs TOS -
somethings that should be held to:
* no pvp
* no recruiting
* no giving of buffs/gear/money - helpers should help, not interfere (and that would also protect them from all the requests "sorry, can't do that, I'm on duty")
the job is to give direction not be involved.

yes, I know I'm crusading here, but I REALLY love this idea :)

yes i think its a good idea. i myself like to help those players that are new to the game..I know how confusing it can be i was at that stage once..So try to help when ever i can. And the idea of if we are willing to help at certain times is good also, cause there are times when I want to work on my caractor instead of helping all the time, but most of the time im helping others in the game, and in my guild. I voted Yes, great idea! when I first saw this as a newbie. It's too bad it's still only a suggestion but I wish to change my vote to Yes, and I would be interested in being a newbie helper.

Nope, still a bad idea to me and now you ask for *minor* rewards(aka, REWARDS). Also you add the thing on your profile of people helped for bragging rights and perhaps even competition among others?

The game doesn't need it, as long as other players are WILLING to help the low level(or even higher level) players, the rewards come by themselves and also a good feeling of knowing you helped someone do better in FS.

As I see it, every player in FS is a newbie helper above lvl 75. For the rewards, why should you have the opportunity to have more stam gain than others? Yours is probably maxed and would have higher than mine without relics. Everyone would be a "Newbie Helper" if it included stam gain, and I really would like the time to do other things instead of helping people all the time(no offense, but it does get annoying after while..like a day or 2).

What I'm saying is, if you want to help out, just visit the Newbie area(or IRC or help in game) on the forum and make a few posts. Your reward is the satisfaction and other natural rewards coming from the helped player :) (if you accept it or not lol)

I don't mind...I don't know if I'd posted on here...

~~~Though in all aspects of it....I don't mind just handed a New player to help...and possibly joining the guild afterwards....
~~~I don't want any recognition to it....I do send players buffs/items sometimes gold...so it's not really new....

~~In short you can give me a new player that is dedicated to the game, and would like to help themselves, however gaining advice and a little help from myself...

I already help as often as i can so sign me up :D And i dont need no reward.. sure it would be nice.. but i think a helper that do it for a reward is not as good a helper as one that already do it with no reward in mind 8)

Too right... :wink:

I wouldn't mind a sanctuary part of Fallensword, where all new players who need major help, can go there....

....We select someone we want from that list, voila! We have our Newbie Player. :wink:

Great idea!

I'd be willing to do such an activity without the rewards. The game can be confusing from levels 1-20, then it gets more linear. The overall concept is great!
