The price of items in the downtime between legendary events can be extremely expensive (remember the decay runes, plague helms, void rings, and hunter items before this last legendary event). I propose that there should be a new marketplace where you could list your items and they could be rented out. Most sets don't need to be worn for more than a week after you get it until you reach very high levels. This could help a lot of low level players use the sets they want without having to actually pay the steep prices to afford these items every few days. Here's the basic jist of the system.

1.) You would be able to list items and search for items just as you would at the AH.

2.) You would set the price for renting an items (i'm thinking a price/12 hours, price/day or price/week. one or more of these choices) in either fsp or gold much like the auction house.

3.) When listed the items would remain in your backpack until they are actually rented out by someone (this would prevent users from using this as extra storage space like many do with their mailbox)

4.) Once someone pays the price to rent it (for example, lets say they paid 5k gold per day to rent some item and paid for 5 days of it), the item would automatically transfer out of the players backpack and over to the renter for the period of 5 days after which, the items would automatically transfer back to the backpack of the person who listed it originally (if bp is full at that time, it would go to the mailbox).

5.) The renter could have the option to extend their renting period before the time expires if they choose (see #6)

6.) The person who is owns the item could put a "stop" on the renting. In this event, the renter would not be able to extend the time period but would keep the item until the original time deadline is up.

7.) The renter would not be able to sell the item or trade it to another player (much like guild tagged items).

8.) The rented item would appear in the list as able to be rented at all times unless
a. you cancel the listing (much like the AH)
b. the item is rented out already
c. your account becomes inactive (this will help to control the marketplace so it doesn't have millions of items in it.)

9.) The listing would need to be removed from the marketplace before the owner would be able to sell/trade the item.

10.) The same item could not be listed at both the AH and "renting marketplace" at the same time (basically because you have to have the item in your bp to be able to do list it).

EDIT: The renter could at any time end the renting of the item early but would not receive back any money they had already paid to rent the item.

PROS:
- Lower level players would be able to get more desirable sets if they can't afford to pay the really high prices (its easier to pay the 7 fsp to have it for a week than the 120 to buy it)
- Higher level players would profit more off of their items
- This hopefully wouldn't tank the prices at the auction house because as more items come out to go the the marketplace, the remaining items at the auction house will be listed for higher (supply and demand, lol had to say it)
- Even higher level players would be able to afford better items (have ya seen the helm of ursa, 300 fsp is out of a lot of players price range)

On one last note, I realize that this would be a very large addition to the game and would take a lot of time and probably be quite difficult to write (sorry HCS, lol) but I think it would be a great addition for many players. Any comments or concerns you have about this, please post and share your ideas to perfect this system

I like this idea pretty much! I think everyone can take profit of it!

Good luck HCS!

TLDR but
all i read was the titled and i thought NO
there is NOTHING you can say for you to convince me
that items should be "RENTED OUT"
The AH is cheap as is
just leave it alone

I think that for each hour the item is in the renting marketplace ( the item is in your BP, and is waiting to be rented) it costs 5,000 gold

I think that would discourage a lot of people from using a renting marketplace. I was sort of thinking it would be free to use like the auction house is but if HCS is looking for more gold sinks, I would suggest a listing fee like we have in the fsp marketplace instead of a pay by hour listing

Do you ever read and think through any of the suggestions posted here? It really doesn't seem like you do. Stop wasting everyone's time by posting BS simply stating "I'm an idiot who just wants to increase my post count and post in these topics to look cool, even though I don't give a rat's ass about people's ideas."

On-topic: it sounds cool, I don't see why it couldn't be very similar to the AH. Please no gold sinks (unless you make it a very, very minute amount... such as 1 gold * item level).

Time limits could be along the lines of 1 hour, 6 hours, 12 hours, 1 day, 2 days, 4 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month.

The player renting out the item can set a range of those times and a price per 1 hour time period. The buyer would choose the exact time to be rented out.

For instance, if I'm selling, I can go to the "Actions, Rental" then click on "Create a Rental" and click on the buttons for 12 hours, 24 hours, and 48 hours. I'd set the price at 1000000 gold per hour. Then Chilon can search the Rental page for "pick axe" and decide to rent out my pickaxe for 12 hours, and 12 million gold would be exchanged from his hand to my hand.

Something like that, I think.

that was one of my ideas. my apologies if it wasn't clear enough

The AH is a joke! Impossible to set a decent price, as it is used for many purposes BUT selling and defining market values; besides, within the month I've been on, I see more and more auctions ending without selling.
I like the idea.

I voted no.

PROS:
- Lower level players would be able to get more desirable sets if they can't afford to pay the really high prices (its easier to pay the 7 fsp to have it for a week than the 120 to buy it)

It's easier, but not sensible. After a week, you are 7 FSP down and no item.

- Higher level players would profit more off of their items

Hmm, this game needs to emphasize the pyramid aspect, doesn't it? Yes, it would be really great if the high level players could, instead of selling the items, actually have them stored in other people's backpack space and generating rent forever :).

Sorry, this game needs the exact OPPOSITE - limitations that will NOT allow high level players to get richer at the expense of low level players.

- Even higher level players would be able to afford better items (have ya seen the helm of ursa, 300 fsp is out of a lot of players price range)

All you need is a bit of cooperation. A well-organized guild that shares equipment does not have problems with equipment affordability.

Simply put, renting is EVIL and bad for the game.

You may be 7 fsp down (if you decide to pay one fsp per day) but for the people that have only 20 fsp and can't afford the 250 fsp for a baron set or the 50-60 for a cockatrice set, 7 fsp is looking a lot better and much more affordable

Also, while it would make some profit for people who actually own the sets, it was not my main purpose to make them even more rich. My goal with this was to get players that can't afford to buy fsp and players that can't do the free offers a way to get the sets they need.

On the issue of guilds, while it is great to find guilds that have everything you need and cooperate perfectly but lets face it, many of the guilds don't have those kinds of opportunities for much lower level players.

I do appreciate your comments though :)

Then they should get out of their crappy guild. >_>

Just joking, don't get too upset...

Don't worry, I try not to get carried away in online forums. In that post, i was more referring to players lvl 75 and under. its very hard for those players to get into a guild that is good enough to have those opportunities

mind i remind you all that legend sets are not a necessity to leveling? you can get to the top with just elite sets or even just random equips picked up off elites and other creatures.

Not everyone can afford an LE set. This suggestion is trying to lessen the gap between the haves and the have-nots, in a way that benefits everyone, and I'm all for that.

Sure, the buyers don't make any profit, but they get to have a sweet set at the same price of which they could have an above-average set.
