Great Idea ! - This would allow the seller to end now and sell to the current bidder for the price they are bidding.

I'm gonna say it could use a couple of tweaks. The one problem I see with this is people putting something up for auction and then ending it right away so they can use the mailbox as extra storage space.

You can do that now, you just have to wait 1 hour as opposed to instantly. People do it all the time. You don't think everyone selling items for 999 or 1000 FSP are serious, do you?

That could work.

Also, I forgot to mention in my first post that I like this idea.

Another thing about it is that it could make people less likely to snipe. Since the auction could really end at any moment, it makes more sense to bid & hope no one outbids you. You could still snipe, it just may not work quite as often.

Wait. I think this is not a good idea at all. If you wanted to only get the amount from the first bidder you should have put that as the buy now price. If the first bidder wanted to buy the item they should have bid the buy now price.

This would remove all ability to watch an auction to buy the item later. I don't see any need to allow people to change an auction duration once it starts. I think this would be bad for the AH and wouldn't really help anyone. You can already end the auction if nobody has bid on it. If someone has you need to wait it out. If you wanted it to be shorter set it shorter at placing the auction.

I would have to agree with Ecolitan on this one. sorry but if you have a price in mind then make it the buy now.

I have to vote no on this for a few of reasons.

First if you really want to move an item fast you should have set it for 1 hour.

Second. If I am interested in an item I often put a starting bid and then will set a time to come back and check on it when there are 15 minutes left. This is because I do not want to bid against myself.

Third. The option to way over abuse this would be there. It could, in theory, make everyone do 48 hour auctions and let friends bid on the items to hold gold to keep it safe (I'm sure this already happens) until bank deposits reset. As a result of this people would be able to wait until the exact moment bank deposits reset and close the auction, get the gold and deposit it.

Fourth. Abuse number 2. If a player wants to get an item bad enough and is in a bidding war with some one else they could send a bribe to the player selling the item to end it now in their favor. While this isn't as likely to ocure it could still happen.

----

If this did get put into action I would like to see it as a gold sink. If you chose to end the auction early HCS takes a % of the money or FSP you would have got, rounded up. I personally like 50% but I know that's too high and would cause issue with a lot of people so maybe something like 20%, rounded up. That means if an item is selling for 1 fsp and you end it now you get nothing. 2-5 fsp would charge you 1 fsp because the ammount is rounded up. With gold sales it's less of an issue because most items you would end now would sell for more than 100 gold, one would think.

Even with that said I'm against the idea due to the chance for abuse.

I heard sarcasm there!

Yeah, it will be abused very very badly. I use auctions for BP space  Doesn't everybody? Besides, if you have 24 hours still left on the Auction Time, you have that same Rune of Decay selling for 23 FSP there, you can just cancel it (I think) and then offer to the guy bidding and say, "I was the guy with the Rune of Decay you put up for 23 FSP. I'll let you have it directly for 23 FSP and then you send a secure trade. You could always do that....
