Just had this idea this morning of another gold/FSP sink so stick with me as I try to explain it all out.

Blue text = edited in after discussion

The idea

The idea is to have a Featured Player up on the home page, there are quite a few benefits for this (I will discuss below) and it can work just like the Featured Guild profiles that appear up there already.

Basically, if a player wanted their profile/bio featured up on the main page they would have to pay a price (gold/FSP amount) per day, and that price would get them listed for 24hrs. The system would then rotate through them, just like the Featured Guilds do now.

Players can only pay/enter once per 24 hours, therefore removing the option of someone "buying out" the featured player box.

It will display the users profile image and bio (plus a link into their actual profile) just like the Featured Guild feature does now.

Due to some profiles being too large to display the whole thing (and clogging up the home page more than it needs to be) it would only display the first 200 or so characters of the players profile, therefore meaning the player would need to (if they had a larger profile) rework their bio to make the first 200 character interesting to readers and get them to click to read the full bio.

Benefits for players

- You can gain exposure for yourself or your guild by having information up in your bio about what you do/offer, or what your guild does/offers.

- If you are a buffer you can advertise your wares another way and have them listed on the main home page so people don't have to go view your profile to see your wares.

- If you're an artist that designs avatars for profiles/guilds then you can advertise here (and even have an example of your work in your own profile image) with your prices and any other information needed.

- If you sell bio space to people, this could be a drawing card for you to get more business (this could be viewed as a good or bad thing I guess)

Benefits for HCS

- Another gold/FSP sink in the game to regulate the monies more.

Things to think about

- Where to place it on the home page. The page is already very full, so I'm not too sure about where to put it. That is something I thought could be discussed here.
added in quote from a few posts down discussion position on the home page...

Maybe have it in the same position as the Featured Guild, but rotate between them both. So have the Featured Players, added into the Featured Guilds rotation. Only problem with this is you would have to regulate it to show the same number of FG's as FP's so that the guilds paying for their exposure did not get taken over by players paying for their own exposure

- The cost? Featured Guild is currently set at 10FSP per day (or 1RP), so would 10FSP be reasonable for this? Discuss...

*I've had a search for this or anything like it but could not find it, sorry if I have missed it...

I'm one of many players who have a rather large (at times) profile. If I was to be up on the main page I would likely double the size or more. I do like the idea of this in general. Maybe have your avatar and name there, click the avatar to go to the profile. On top of that you can get say ... 200 chars that you can type out to grab some one's attention?

The cost would be the issue because you are getting 24 hours, and you get more chars than an FSBox, or a shout box ... maybe 20 FSP?

Its not a bad idea, but I think that there will be one person in particular that may buy it up way too much. Some attention seeking person that I can think of.

That is true, I didn't think of the impact players with huge profiles would have on the page. How does it work currently with the guilds with large bio's? Does the whole thing get displayed?

I do like the idea of this in general. Maybe have your avatar and name there, click the avatar to go to the profile. On top of that you can get say ... 200 chars that you can type out to grab some one's attention?

Maybe just set it up to display only the first 200 chars of someones profile, that way they can work it (if their profile is longer) to say something in that first 200 chars to get people interested in reading the rest.

The cost would be the issue because you are getting 24 hours, and you get more chars than an FSBox, or a shout box ... maybe 20 FSP?

I just likened the cost to the guild cost of having themselves feauted up there which is 10FSP for 24hrs, but it rotates through them.

If you can only enter your profile in once per 24 hours it would give everyone a fair go at having their profile up there, well those willing to pay anyway.

Ok, there is a certain naughty lady who most of us know on the boards that rents space on her bio page...

This would increase that activity a LOT. I'm not sure we need this, but if we have it we need to be prepared to see the same few people with bio's that have ads for 20 different players featured throughout the day.

Other than that, I have no opposition other than... where would it go? Would it replace the featured guild position? Because if it was lower nobody would care because they wouldn't see it.

What is to stop many other players doing this too? It could be another way of them trying to make some coin, just like people advertising buffs or graphics...

Read this.

Maybe we can work this suggestion in? I was thinking something like, how many different variants of weapons and items and whatnot in the game, the number of creatures, the number of players, the number of guilds, how the forum is so active. Then we have the Fallen Sword logo over the top (you know, that large banner with the cool dragon and the sword and Fallen Sword), with the log-in part at the right side of the screen, and underneath the description box put:

Player Submitted:

With a link to the Featured Player here, including a picture to go with the link.

Then, some hand-chosen graphics from real players about Fallen Sword.

And on and on. I think we can work this out.

So, you're saying to have it on the home page BEFORE logging in? I guess that could work too, I didn't think of that.

The only problem I can see with this is that people advertising their wares would want to advertise to people IN the game, not people logging in. I'm not sure, but who would check the Featured Player link before logging in? thus not giving people much of a chance to sell what they're selling.

BUT

It would be good for people new to the game to see someone's profile in action and see what is capable in-game.

Good idea, and I'm still reading through all of that thread.

Oh! I thought you were talking about the actually logging-in page, not the page right after you logged in. Hmm...

It could work on either, but the target audience for people buying themselves a spot on the Featured Players list would be very different I think.

I like it, actually. If you have something you really want to say, it can be said. The only problem I have is that there's probably going to be like 1000 people wanting to be the featured player.

Did you know that there are likely over 2000 rouge black holes in our galaxy alone. Each of them can reach very high speeds, even in space terms, are each capable of destroying anything in their path, and are invisible. Well, goodnight!

Even though it could show the first 200 chars of the profile I don't think I'ld want to do that, I like how my profile lays out and would rather have 200 chars to put in there that are fresh and new to grab some one to come to my profile.

Then again that's just me. As for the 10 fsp VS 20 fsp, the reason for 20 is that an FS box is 1 fsp. Why pay 1 fsp for 1 hour when for 10 you get 24 hours?

In regaurds to limiting number of times you can do it in a day. It could be a double FS sink ... Every player starts with the ability to post 0, then for like ... 5 or 10 fsp you buy the ability to enter once every 24 hours, then up to 5 times every 24 hours, kind of like bank deposits, except you got to pay 5 or 10 fsp to be in the frount page.

I just think that that would require more coding on the part of HCS than grabbing the first 200 characters of someones bio.

As for the 10 fsp VS 20 fsp, the reason for 20 is that an FS box is 1 fsp. Why pay 1 fsp for 1 hour when for 10 you get 24 hours?

FSBox is also visible on every page (way more exposure than just the home page), and more likely than not you are not going to be online for 24 hours so if you're advertising your buffs for 24hours, you may run out very quick thus leaving your profile up there just to look good.

So would that be an everyday thing, say I bought it for 10FSP would that mean that every single day I can enter once and not pay again? or are you saying each day you can pay 10FSP, then another 10FSP to be added in again...

Not quite sure I got what you were saying there Angie...

Why dont people just use the FSBox and say hey look at my profile? Seems simpler and works just as well. When I feel the need to advertise my buffs thats what I do.

there already is one, its called the fs shout box, just copy your bio into the space and then rebuy every hour if you want it up for 24 hours which i would doubt

I'm saying it would be like bank deposits. Except they don't auto refill. You pay X FSP to gain the ability to be listed once per day. To use that listing you pay Y FSP. In 3 weeks you might want to get listed again so you pay Y FSP again. If you wanted to be able to list twice in one day you'ld have to pay X first to buy a second listing (kind of like with bank deposits and marketplace listings) but once you buy it you keep the ability to list that number of times, you just have to pay to list as well ...

------------

With all that said and out of the way the people also have a good point about FSBox and Shoutbox. As fun as the idea would be not sure how practical it would be.

Idea is ok BUT so many people would be featured that you wouldonly be seen once every 20-30 min
