good suggestion but with players from different countries and their native languages it would be impossible to have a profanity filter in the game that will work 100% correctly.

Well that is all good and dandy, but just cuz you don't won't stop others from it... normally I don't have a problem with it... but if someone cusses me out and harasses me at the same time... odds are I'll get pissed off...

I am sick and tired of people I have met and started a good friendship with and then just getting their accounts terminated for swearing/abusing people.

This is a clear sign that you make friends with the wrong people :).

If something is forbidden and punishable, there's no need to spend efforts on making filters for it - terminating the accounts is anyway a filter of sorts :)

Edit: Anyway I don't believe in automatic filters. The only things they achieve is that people learn how to bypass them and will be more creative in their insults. It really doesn't make any difference to be called id10t instead of idiot :)

To be honest, there shouldn't be any need of a filter. Why swear at people anyway? If you swore at people in the street they'd be upset? It's the same on the internet, as much as some people will deny it. Besides, there're ways around filters. Using various keyboard symbols, putting spaces or dots betweens letters, deliberate misspellings, the list could go on.

This is, of course, just my opinion. But, no to filters! \o/ Why do you want the FS guys to spend time on a filter when they could be making exciting new content anyway? =)

There is no need for a swear filter. We only terminate players who have used up their strikes anyway. You don't want to be terminated - obey the User Agreement. It's quite simple really.

You can swear under your breathe, just don't type swear words.

Did you know that there are likely over 2000 rouge black holes in our galaxy alone. Each of them can reach very high speeds, even in space terms, are each capable of destroying anything in their path, and are invisible. Well, goodnight!

Beyond the filter and such people need to learn to be creative with cursing ... I mean you can't get banned for yelling "Fricken frozen toed space chimps" or "three nosed goony bird".

I have a 6 year old daughter, she doesn't play the game, but I do get rather fumed wen I hear people casually swear just randomly, like they were using pennies.

Anyway as for a filter, would be a nice idea for the basics but as pointed out it would take time away from new content.

Swear filters? This is definitely sounding like a stupid childish game I know that used to be nice. There is no need for one, because while capturing relics our two guilds still laughed.

And if you just swear at someone, why can't you just ignore 'em?

Plus, if there were younger people in here, I would like them banned pleased. It really really destroyed the game I used to play, so it made it completely harmless...like coating the whole word with bubble wrap seven times over. They can admit their age and then they can play once their birthday reaches the appropriate age (13).

one site I go to (meant for more mature groups) has a ban for people who are found to be under aged. It'll say "___ has been banned for 18 years" Reason "Under aged" ... would be interesting to adapt that for this place ... "____ has been banned for 13 years"

tbh if people are evening thinking of swearing at other players they deserve to be banned.
