Personally, I know well what you are talking about and why you want this... you suggested a good idea... one person said they don't think it will happen... and I do not think that is a good reason to want to delete a topic... I know HCS and the moderators themselves rarely delete threads... most of the time they will just lock them or move them to a mod only area...
If my response on this idea isn't clear to you, it is a no...

Did you know that there are likely over 2000 rouge black holes in our galaxy alone. Each of them can reach very high speeds, even in space terms, are each capable of destroying anything in their path, and are invisible. Well, goodnight!

Another way this could be abused is avoiding the 12 hour bump rule, you just delete your thread and make a new one while copying down everyone's ideas that you like from the thread. While this is a bit more far fetched it is still a possibility.
Beyond that I'm sure there are other ideas but who knows.

sameI voted no for a couple of reasons. 1stly if some one posts some rather derogatory things about other people and can delete it before a mod sees it, that doesn't make what was said go away. If there is a way of deleting your own threads then there would have to be a place they go, a thread graveyard that only Mods can view. A mod would go through the place every so often and make sure what was deleted wasn't something like that.

To be honest, if there's a decent discussion in a thread, what right has the owner of that thread to erase it all just because he started the conversation? If a thread warrents deletion, it will be done by the mods or admins without any need of a request from the OP.

I know what you're referring to as well

Yup totally, as when any sort of behaviour by the thread maker is deleted, then there will be no evidence of his/her misbehaviour.
It would make it difficult to monitor, and things like these, are more or less what moderators are there for.
Besides, if we leave it up, more people will be able to view what not to suggest next time. O.o
