I would LOVE a camouflage buff, so I can "hide" when i'm online. Could be useful for a number of things as well - PVP, arena, guild work, just because....
The only "catch" would be if people actually viewed your profile they could see the buff and would know you are possibly online but maybe not....
As for the main thrust of the thread, I think its a good idea overall... I like the skill tree as is, but more skills would be awesome!

i'm thinking doubler at level 1, as its a time saving buff to the lower levels rather than a way to protect my SSI...
most of the buffs which are above level 300 start should stay where they are otherwise there will be moaning and chaos...

I personally understand the need for a skill tree in some areas, but would not argue if they removed the trees. It would be nice if in some way the tree helped out tho, such as 10% of each tree skill before is rolled into the next skill. This would promote some specialization, since I know I have 10 in fur and ber so that I can have DC (I think those are the ones anyways). Just wondering if lowering the overall levels of buffs is a good idea tho, I didn't see anything for level 400+, not sure if that's just because they weren't out yet at the time of the posting though.
