Well first thing, a joining a guild will get you more stat points, as any decent guild will have at least a few structures that give the members bonus points. Not only do structures enhance your stats and enhancements, but there are also structures that increase your max stamina and stamina gain a bit.

Most guilds also have good gear you can borrow, therefore saving you a lot of gold and/or FSP instead of having to buy the gear yourself.

Oops I'd write more but my stuff is done on the store...

I have another question. I've seen many guilds shown in the game, been invited to join a couple (one just 'join my guild', another with a cool note from the founder), and read through some of the posts in the recruiting forum here. I have a few basic questions about guilds though.

Why would one wish to join a guild? I infer from some of the numbers on the guild information pages that the guild requires gold/experience to join/be a member - assuming you don't personally know anybody else playing this game, what's the point? I do not want to be handed everything needed to make the game easy; been there, done that, gotten incredibly bored with games I've done it on in the past. Are there boosts to your stats or something?

How do I go about joining a guild - is it all automatic? As I said, I've gotten a couple of invites, but don't know if I should join or not.

Which guilds should I consider? I'm obviously just starting out, so don't know the in's and out's of it. If I decide I do not like the guild, may I later leave and join a different one?

Thanks in advance.

Well you can get to know people, the guild structures boost your stats, and it's pretty much a social thing. When you kill creatures, part of the exp and gold goes to the guild, but the guild members can buff you so you get more exp/gold per creature kill. If you don't contribute and are not active, you probably will be kicked out of the guild. If you are in a guild, you can leave or you can be kicked out. Joining a guild is automatic. You can choose whichever guild you want, although you probably want the one with the highest level in exp.

Gah that was supposed to be done on the stove not the store.

Anyway, yeah, boost in stats, gear to borrow, also people to chat with and help you learn (then later you help the newbies).

As far as joining, you just go to the guild page of the guild you want to join and there's a link that says "join this guild". Whoever is in charge of recruiting for the guild will either accept or deny your request. As far as joining and leaving, you can leave at any time, but try to keep guilds as long as possible, or else you could be labeled a "guild hopper" and less likely to get into the "good" guilds. ;) Some people choose a guild and stay there for life! :D

Gold donations are on a guild-by-guild basis; some require donations, some are on a volunteer basis, as long as all the bills are paid. Most guild now have the tax upgrade that tax a percentage of each kill. Ask before you apply. :)

Do you mean like the houses in Dune, the building of a dynasty?

A buff is a skill that someone casts on you to boost your stats. For instance, if someone cast Adept Learner level 100 on you you would get +20% exp per creature kill.

I'm glad to see people do research before just jumping into a guild. :)

Why would one wish to join a guild? I infer from some of the numbers on the guild information pages that the guild requires gold/experience to join/be a member - assuming you don't personally know anybody else playing this game, what's the point? Guilds vary in regards to what they ask of prospective members. Newer guilds might require you pay for a spot, since it costs 20fsp to make a room for new members. Well established guilds might do the same for people below a certain level to encourage them to feel like they've invested something. Other guilds do not put a price on membership. It all depends on how the leaders address the costs of the guild.

The costs for running guilds varies based on the structures they have. Those structures in turn give benefits to all guild members. Some increase your stamina regen, others your stats thus enabling you to kill things more easily and make better use of your stamina, others are geared towards PvP assistance. Again, the actual structures a guild has will depend on how established it is, what it can afford based on what income the players provide to the guild bank, and the necessity for certain structures based on the playstyle of the guild.

Well established guilds tend to have players willing to buff (cast skills to temporarily increase the stats of) members in order to help them advance as well as offer advice and assistance. The ultimate (imho) purpose of being in a guild is to be in a facet of the community, since the biggest draw for most games is the community.

How do I go about joining a guild - is it all automatic? As I said, I've gotten a couple of invites, but don't know if I should join or not.

How to join depends on what guild you wish to join. If you're sent an invite, you simply need to accept it if you wish to join that guild. There would be a link in your log. Other guilds may require an application on an external forum, or an interview, or both. For example, my guild requires application on our forum, an interview in irc, and continued use of irc for communications.

Which guilds should I consider? I'm obviously just starting out, so don't know the in's and out's of it.

You should decide which playstyle you wish to follow. Some guilds will require you not to participate in initiating PvP, others may embrace it. Many advertise on the recruiting section of the forum. Pick a few that you might be interested in from the first glance. See what they require, perhaps talk to a few of the guild's members before applying. Most people when asked will say 'my guild is the best' kudos to them for loyalty. There are alot of great guilds and there is bound to be more than one that you'd like to be a part of.

If I decide I do not like the guild, may I later leave and join a different one?

You're never locked into a guild. (The only exception is if you aren't able to get rid of all guild tagged equipment.) You can leave by your own choice easily by the mere click of a button. Likewise, you can be removed from a guild by a member who has the ability to 'boot' you if you aren't fitting the guild.

Good luck in your search, and have fun.
