I have never heard of a single case of actual "hacking" every so called "hack" has been someone stupid enough to either 1. give their password to someone. or 2. give someone within the guild the privileges to either withdraw/untag, or the ability to add/edit ranks, making them able to add any power they choose to their rank. its their own fault, and HCS shouldn't be liable.

I've heard of a few actual hackers, but what is HCS supposed to do? Undelete your stuff, just because you say that you got hacked? They can trace your items to someone else, and delete that player, but other than that, not much they CAN do.

you sure? I've heard of a few people taking advantage of coding glitches (I.E Chilon and Futanari) but never any actual hacking.

An ex-guildmate of mine got hacked by someone in the same office as him through a keylogger...that's the only actual case I've ever heard.

By 'hack' we mean actually hacking into the game's database ...Not keylogging

There is relly no way a GUILD can get hacked, I suppose the closest way is for the Founder to get hacked, so this question should be addressed to a certain player who has been hacked. A proper guild with all safeguards in place should not be damaged to badly from a hacking. Now if someone with rights gets hacked.. theres not much you can do about that except hope the player who was hacked can help HCS snag the hacker and possibly right some wrongs.

My guess is that 90% of hackings is a weak password. Maybe the cows should stick a check when someone makes their password isnit the same as their user name, lame yes but as sad as it sounds 100% of the "hacking" cases I've dealt with (not only this game) this was the case. It may be impossible to forget but it is certain doom.

The only time a guild gets 'hacked' is by a users mistake - generally giving the 'Add/Edit' ranks permission (we're looking at adjusting this one btw) or giving out a password of a highly ranked player (really nothing we can do here).

We try to help out guilds affected as we don't like to see players getting ripped off, however sometimes there is only so much we can do :(

I think Keylogging is a legitimate hack. It certainly doesn't fall into the social engineering category

it's a hack on the client end instead of the server end is all, however that isn't something that anyone at hcs could do anything about.

Well that isn't entirely true either but HCS would have to spend a ton of money on a piece of equipment from juniper to detect keyloggers on the remote and auto suspend accounts or something. That would be pretty expensive though and a pain.

I would actually have a liked a 'I don't know' option, because my character has never been violated before, so I wouldn't know how HCS would adress me personally.

Though I voted Yes, because In the end it's not whether i'm satisfied or not, it's whether or not it was my own carelessness to lead to that result. So I wouldn't blame HCS at all, and be thankful for any help that they give me in my support ticket.

/agree with TT and hoof

The FS servers have never been "hacked" to my knowledge. That means the blame for any "guild hacking" or "account hacking" rests solely on the user.

As for keylogging, if you only lose your FS account, you should count yourself lucky for not losing your identity/bank account because of your carelessness. Use this as a warning to secure your computer.

I suggest anyone who hasn't already done so, install this add-on for mozilla.(there's also a version for IE) it encrypts all keystrokes made in firefox or IE.

Keyscrambler: https://addons.mozil...efox/addon/3383

Between that and a good anti-virus/spyware/malware/trojan programs, your account will never get hacked.(Provided you have a decent strength password and don't give your password out)

Anyway, if you search the forums, you'll find lots of threads of people thanking HCS for helping out when guilds are "stolen"

Not saying you are wrong about the last statement but it is curious that none of those people have responded here.

As for the general implication that if you get hacked it is somehow your fault for not having enough defense, I disagree - at least somewhat.

Everyone should take normal measures to prevent this happening as they do to prevent being mugged or burgled or raped or murdered. Yet despite defensive efforts, sometimes stuff happens and when it does there needs to be at least some hope that justice can be served on the offender.

To that end we have police and courts and prisons etc - it would be nice if HCS were able to at least ensure the guilty party doesn't get to enjoy their illicit gains. Even if they just get permanently banned and the items cannot be returned, it would be better than simply telling the victims that they were not careful enough or that it never really happened cause it was all their fault anyway.

BTW I have never seen anyone from HCS suggest any such thing and am quite sure they make an effort in such cases; it is just the players responses that suggest it is all on the victim.

Oh and even if it is all on the victim, I don't want the offender gaining from it but maybe that is just me.
