no more potion sniping, fair potion purchasing...

so lets change the way potions (special type potions) of this type are bought. Here's how it works...
HSC declares how many potions are avalable for purchase in a 24 hour window (lets say it 20 for now). Players are then invited to bid the amount they are willing to pay for a potion, if they want multiple potion they put in multiple bids. Then at the end of the 24 hour window, the top players (so 20 highest bids) win potions. Anyone who doesn't win a potion gets his gold returned to him (this could be programmed so he recieves it either with his bank reset or when he logs on (both times he should be there to recieve).
This would prevent the following:
prevent people getting dirt cheap potions at off peak times
there will be no sniping as noone will know anyone elses bid
everyone paying a fair price based on the supply and demand

Likewise, if I realized that I wanted to use a potion to help me kill a certain critter, I would want to be able to go on the AH to find one that will end soon and bid on it.
The last minute sniping is how an auction works.

do you have any idea how many people buy potions every day? any idea at all?. how many people need those potions to level? and how PISSED you would be if you waited all day to level,. because you needed a potion, and then lose at the end of the day? and don't get it? and run over your max stam? this is a horrid idea.

you said the magic word, need, no one needs anything... and yes i do have a pretty good idea as well... this would just force planning which is already needed for quick and efficient leveling. If you feel you really need a potion then you would have to bid a lot providing a very good gold sink.no. the idiocy of this blows me away.

Another thing this was a suggestion, i said 24 hours, and was thinking about one cycling every 24 hours, but there is really no need, they could be run as 24 batches finishing one each hour. THen you would have to wait at most an extra 40mins for you precious potions.
Far simpler would be to have the potions apear so the autions have a much longer duration, ie 24 hours, so that people are able to bid on all potions, and not just the ones that are about to finish within the hour.
Finally current autions in the special section could be blind, wherein you don't know what other people bid on the potion, until it is over, and then you either recieve a potion or your gold back...
there really is no need to decide that what this idea is trying to do is just out right rubbish... after all this is a suggestion forum.

why don't you want to know what other people bid? then it's not an auction house....
that whole point is that people are then forced to bid what they think it is worth to them, rather than snipe it off someone else, have you ever been to an aution (real) where you can actually snipe an item?
one addition, mentioned earlier is that you could reserve gold to be added if others bid on your potion, ie. i bid 10k on a potion but i am willing to pay up to 50k. then someone tries to snipe the potion for 12k, so my autorebid adds to the total and i end up with the potion for 12k*1.05 since that is the minimum raise... (thanks to madsci74 for that good idea)

yes...if you went to a real auction, then you'd know that you just try to bid as much as you think it's worth, and if someone snipes you out at the last second, you lose it. this is because everyone KNOWS what the other person has bidded, so then they add on a little until the other person stops...the EXACT same thing is in the special potions part of the auction house...why don't you want to know what other people bid? then it's not an auction house....

they arent going to change it. its not broken. its how it works in real auctions. some suggestions are just not going to happen.
no its not how it work in real autions, becuase you can't put in a bid and a maximum you are willing to pay...
anyway there are many types of autions...

but at a real aution there are no snipers, people stop bidding when they don't want to pay that much not when a timer runs out

Did you know that there are likely over 2000 rouge black holes in our galaxy alone. Each of them can reach very high speeds, even in space terms, are each capable of destroying anything in their path, and are invisible. Well, goodnight!

ok...that's basically the same thing...if you don't want to pay that much, then you don't bid...
