Sometimes I want to go online on FS and do guild stuff or just personal game stuff(like reset AH listings) and get bombarded by PMs regarding whatever...

I'd like to control that little green light that pops on.

Just set a preference in character that you could turn it off at least...

+ Show green light when logging in

+ Show no light when logging in

It would only effect the green light in the 3 areas, in each guild's listing and on allies/friends or Enemies lists. This would NOT effect the last activity in any way then before.

There are many ways to handle this, flame away :)

Two cents...

Btw I typed this while off on the game yet still want to be able to read the forum w/o missing PMs...

I agree. It would be quite handy to hide your online status from time to time.

Not a fan. I understand why it would be handy, but how can anyone ever know if anyone else is really online or really offline if we have control over the bulb. I'm not sure what advantage could be gained by having your bulb not light - but if we can't trust the little green lights what good are they?

Might it not be better to have a Do Not Disturb setting which would temporarily disable your PMs. Or perhaps only let in PMs from the system, plus allies? plus guildmates? Something that could be set in preferences.

This.

Did you know that there are likely over 2000 rouge black holes in our galaxy alone. Each of them can reach very high speeds, even in space terms, are each capable of destroying anything in their path, and are invisible. Well, goodnight!

Interesting the "Do not disturb" idea. I like that one very much. Being able to disable PMs by everyone or everyone but guildmates or allies for example.

And to answer your question about how do we ever know when some one is online look at the last activity. If it consistantly shows a few seconds or even up to less then a minute they are probably around. Over 5 min and your chances drop considerably...

Just an opinion :)

Ok, we can check every player's bio. But really, if we are looking for online players are we going to want to click every single grey bulb to see if it is telling the truth? Also, this doesn't actually solve your issue with people not being able to PM you, just makes it harder.

I think the Do Not Disturb would work better. We don't have to hunt for players that are really online but forgot to switch the bulb. If you don't want to be disturbed and we PM you, we get a quick message back that you aren't taking PMs right now... please try again later.

Well I know this Status: On/Off thing in bios is useless...

Now bounty hunting is up to you if you care...

Those that ask for buffs not listed in bios could be taken out and shot! :)

I'd just like to be able to set the pref whether or not you want that light to be shown. I do very much like the idea of "Do not disturb" mode. While leveling I've noticed many friends wipe their bio clean and just put something to the effect, leave me alone. And I bet they still get the random nOOb or jerk PMing them. Privacy is the issue really imo.

I agree it might be nice to not have the green light, but ya know what it's part of the game and as much as there are some times I don't like it, in regards to PVP and what not, if you can't tell who is truely on and offline then that takes a big part of the game out of it, or something like that

Either way I'm against the idea of lurking in the game (being online with no one knowing you're online)

Now then that said a DND mode would be awesome, maybe a red light that flashes showing that you are hunting, or not selling buffs. Heck I'ld pay 15 fsp to have that option open to me ...

"Set Mode"
"Online" (medium-dark) green
"Away" yellow (orange cause it shows up better than yellow does compaired to green)
"DND" red

I would actually enjoy this feature very much. The only problem I forsee is a lot of people who forget to turn their light back on when they want to stop lurking.

The Do Not Disturb sign thing I like less. Sometimes an guild ally, or person with a point wants to send you a message even though you aren't on, so they usually just drop you a message and wait for you to get back on. With this on, you would miss some important messages that could have been beneficial. Also, another problem with this is that tons of people would forget to disable the do not disturb thing when they're done doing what they want to do, and so they just stay with it on for a bumload of time.

the DND I propose would just be the light being Red letting people you are on, but you won't be answering messages right now, it wouldn't block messages and stuff like that. Heck I'ld even pay 30 fsp for that kind of option.

To address these concerns there could be a preference setting that allows PMs from allies/guildmates, so no messages missed. As far as not turning it on/off, the same is true for both suggestions, just make it so that when you go inactive the DND automatically shuts off. Other than that, if you forget to turn it off and miss messages even though you are online, well that's your responsibility.
