i am far from a computer whiz so my terms and explanation may be horrible... but it means that the avatar must be saved in JPEG format. you can often change the file type to JPEG if you need. when you have the image open, try to use save as and then change the file type at the bottom. if that doesn't work try changing the file format in a program like photoshop or irfanview.

Put even more simply, the file needs to end with .jpg :o
