1. The value to the player of what the scavengers can get you, and whether you can get the same item from other sources (AH, stores, creatures), or whether these items are exclusive to the scavengers.
2. The probability of getting the item that you requested, how it varies based on how much you pay , and whether the item is valuable enough for the player to sink gold in multiple tries (like inventing).
As the game has lottery, AH special section, and inventing, I don't see scavenging as somethng new. At the end of the day people will scavenge only if they can get items through scavenging that they cannot get through the other channels, of if they can get them cheaper or with less pain than through the other channels.
So actually, you could accomplish the same effect by adding new cool expensive items/potions to inventing or AH. Having said that, it's an interesting variant to add diversity to the game (some people prefer inventing, others AH sniping, other may like scavenging better). But I don't think it'll be a a better gold sink than the AH potions.
A related idea would be to create a market for Player Scavengers. You could create a reverse market in which players post what they are willing to buy and for how much gold (like you did with the FSPs) (i.e. plants, items, potions, etc). You could make it in gold and you could add a gold fee. This will lead player scavengers to see what items are most demanded and scavenge for those. Once the finders gets them (through quests, hunting, stores, inventing) they can sell them to the requestors. This could create a lot of add'l commerce. Also players would buy upgrades to be able to post more requests in this market.

Essentially there is a gold problem. We all know it... We need to get rid of gold.
BUT
I would hate for the scavengers to find items. That just creates an item problem. The PvP arena does that for items already (which is only one of the numerous problems with the arena).
The advantage of the scavenger idea (unlike the PvP thing) is that it is not stacked towards more advanced/richer players/guilds. We all know theat is the problem of the PvP arena. Get the best sets, FF and then just work the odds. Nothing to it. Since the price of items falls as the market floods, the PvP gets less and less worthwhile anyway and as more and more players approach the optimal strategy it becomes a lottery. The scavengers will do the same thing if they find items... flood the item market, drive down the price of items, or in order to attract people game breaking items/potions etc would be added. All bad.
So anyway, the best idea would be to allow people to dump gold for stamina via the scavengers. If there was an approximate return on stamina of say 25 stamina for 100K gold that would re-fix the price of an FSP down to 100K... (when the cap was removed the ineveitable rise began)... Whatever the approximate return on this investment in scavengers in terms of 25 stamina units will become the new range for FSP prices... it would be easy to reduce the price with reserve stamina if the expected return was like 25 stamina for 75K we would watch a lot of FSPs become avaialbe instead of being sunk out of the game.
But please god no to the item flood and overpowered potions...

Not a bad idea. But this still faver's the "richer" players and also the higher level's because they get more gold. So still pretty unfear. But other than that i like your idea :-D

Yes... you should get different items but please let the good once really be good. And things like potions of a 1000 lvl like the cake you gave us for the b-day will also be great... also, the extra stam will make alot of us really send out our scavangers.
As i said... i like the idea, and can't wait for you to implement it... but just try to make it a bit more fair then most of the other things in FS.

Just put it in Hoof, the thinking power of tens of thousands players isn't as great as the power of the FS team..so ya go for it!

people want to get rid of their gold but not just throw it away, u need to give something in return, preferably something that gets used up and disappears. (potion is a good example).
if it does not meet that criteria, then do not bother.
