Trading quest items (ones that are tradable, not bound to character) isn't cheating. Someone was pulling your leg. There's even a quest item section in auction house.I know Ive heard trading quest items is cheating and can get a player kicked from the game.

There are no quest "rules". You just do what the quest requires, no philosophy to it.

Quest items aren't different from any other items, so you can buy them, trade them, give them away for free, whatever you want.
There are certainly no rules against doing that.
Around level 350 (or so, I can't remember) they become bound to the character who found them, so no more trading (you can only use them or destroy them).
