I suggested this elsewhere but think it would be best to make a separate thread on it. What i suggest is impose an upkeep for every guild-tagged item, instead of just a small cost in gold for tagging it. The cost could be 1 gold/item level/hour. Thus a level 100 item would have 100 gold/hour upkeep. That way the guilds would hold on to smaller amounts of LE gear, and players would need to have the initiative and resources to find items for themselves and not simply rely on a guild to be fully equipped from level 50 to 600... The items that the guilds will keep will be a nice gold-sink, and the increased AH traffic that will be caused by guilds selling equipment will mean that initially it will be easier for everyone to get decent gear for good prices (since upkeep costs will put pressure for low prices/fast sales )

The way things are now, if a guild (like mine) can offer full sopport to its members, they simply dont care to buy items on their own or farm Elite sets to use..

In the long-run, the managing of LE gear in the game will be in the hands of players, that will be able to trade them for better ones as they level up, and perhaps take a good amount of items with them when they retire, thus increasing the value of those that remain in the hands of active players.

If a guild has 20 Deep sets and 30 decay runes, it will certainly be disrupted, but whats the point of offering everything on a plate to guild members of those levels?

This change will actually help guilds as it will leave out those that join a guild simply because the items are free

this is actually a great idea because of that. i personally know of a few guilds that have over 5000 tagged items. this would add a huge gold sink to the game since in order for them to keep those items the players would have to donate more to the guild bank.

just did a little rethink on this and at the current proposal of 1g/item level/hour would probably be bank breaking even for smaller guilds with not a lot of tagged gear and would need a large script written to continually re-calculate the cost every hour which might cause some lag which none of us want.

How about a simpler 5 gold per item an hour. it would still have the effects proposed by the OP but would be much easier to write.

EDIT: I missed that this independent on level.

Also, what is to stop someone from untagging items before upkeep, and retagging them after the fact?

Yes, i may have been a bit overzealous with the 1gold/level/hour.. Calculating the cost for the 900 or so guild items of ours is scary, lol.

I also like the idea of a set amount per item, like the 5 gold mentioned, it would still make a great gold sink and a cause for guilds to hold on to less LE gear..

darn you DA. why do you always think of everything.

what would stop them from untagging and retagging? 2 things.

1. the sheer amount of time consumed to do that every hour on the hour of every day.

2 The Cost. it costs 100 gold per item level to retag versus 5 gold to just leave it tagged.

Gets a thumbs up from me. I personally don't use guild items to save my Guild Founder some money.

Maybe have the upkeep of the Guild Registrar based on number of guild tagged items; sort of how the upkeep Fury Shrine is based off of the number of players.

this is an improvement on the good idea of the OP. the reason i say this is because for small guilds who are trying to attract newer players, this could be much more affordable; a guild with less than 20 pieces of tagged gear could have a really tiny upkeep

If they do this they will have multiple guilds crying foul and wanting all sorts of refunds on many fsp upgrades ranging from guild store spots to costs of the guild register and all. Also, many guilds will just untag and sell the gear and that would just further flood the market. This idea would do nothing but hurt the smaller guilds that FS needs.

When I first thought of guild tagging, I had no clue it would have this kind of impact. I was just tired of guild hopping thieves ripping off my guild at the time. As for the assertion that guild tagging only leads to selfish members that only want what their guild can provide for them, they were prevalent before tagging too. Strong guild leadership will prevail with or without tagging.

further flood the market let me tell you theres way more players than there are sets they get rid of guild tagging it would bring the market back fast.. no one is buying cause most guilds have guild sets take this away then guess what everyone needs to get there own sets again thus brinking the prices up in the ah.. now as far as undoing the mess hcs made i have no idea how this would be done

5 gold per item --- GREAT idea, great gold sink, and really would encourage members to donate to their guilds (If you don't donate, we simply would kick members or take away their guild store privileges :-) )

Kudos to the OP!

You know, I use some guild tagged gear, stuff I can't afford to get for myself for the most part. I in no way expect my guild to provide these things for me, but they do, because they love and respect me. If a guild is run like a family, there is no need to worry about such things. But tagging is essential, especially for the newer smaller guilds. That way they don't get ripped off by some unscrupulous vagabond that steals and leaves.

And last time I looked, this was a game. Profit from what ever is just as fake as the characters most of us have made. Have fun and stop taking it so seriously 8)

How about this formula:

[Guild Level * Item Level ]/hour
