Arena Update. Let's talk!

These changes allow a lot more freedom and adapting to what is popular and what is not. Accordingly, items should not be bound to certain level ranges, not everybody has 400 BP slots.

im hoping the new items are diverse and useful enough that the price should stay steady on them for quite a long time
and that they don't get released in scavenging like gurgriss xD
well, that wasnt one of the brightest decisions ever

That would also include prizes of arena moves across all levels. Personally the arena was ruined for me when the last new moves came in and destroyed the chances of winning with an armour setup. How about a new move that reduces defense by 50%? (some of us cant afford 700 BP and a turtle suit for all the levels)
A mix of prizes is good, gold, buffs, kit, moves, FSP. You pays ya money and takes a choice
So some neg. and some positive views there then..lol

The most important thing you can do for the arena (I cannot stress this enough) is to monitor the market on the item prizes. Or better yet set up a thread and let the players help. This is not to let people make constant profits on the arena, but ratherprevent the arena from getting stagnant. The lack of dev monitoring of the arenas effects on the item market is what causes the stagnation. If it can't be done alone, let user feedback help.

only suggestion that hasn't been made is on the prizes:
Mystery prize: a set entry cost like 100k gold or something random, and you do not know what the prize is. the only known is that it is not in the standard arena rotation. It could be infernus boots, or a Legendary item like a reborn leaf staff. It's one thing winning a match, but another to win something unexpected.

I think Grim said he has quite a few sets, there wouldn't be much of a problem is a couple were released in Scavenging, as long as the cost and drop is a sink and yet worth it

question: in order to effectively give feedback on "Arena Admin Control ", can you explain what types of changes are possible? further restrictions or freedom? bigger or smaller matches? different types of arena moves? more visability on the rounds? are these controls just to add variety to the item pool and cost of the arena's?

i'd still like to see smaller groups for the moves tournaments. and maybe when some of the new items come out, a few tournaments for the new items that a non-moves.
That's do-able. Don't think I want to go lower than 8 players though.
The tournament level should not affect prizes at all. All prizes should be available at all level ranges.
And the poll seems to back you up here. So noted.
I really like the 15 minute spawn time. I think most of the active arena players like knowing when the knew tournaments spawn, and it should be kept this way.
Not quite what I meant by spawn time. What I meant was that I can give each Arena Fight a specific value to see whether it'll be spawned. I.e. A Tournie with 16 players that uses moves will appear more frequently than a Tournie for the same prize but with 8 players and no moves.
Do I make sense or am I confusing things further? :?:
What i would LOVE to see implemented, though i don't know if possible, is a maximum time a tournament can be on the board.
Not something we did. With the new prizes, this should be less of a problem. Plus if I see a particular Tourny is unpopular, I can replace it.
It's time to bring the prices more into line with the rewards, which is a major overhaul, but im sure some of the more active arena players would have no problem giving you an idea of what they think is fair.
This is a pretty trial and error process. It'll be interesting once new Items are added.
one thing I would like to see, are epic/non epic arenas
Agreed.
some lvl 700+ tournies would be great
This will be easy to sort now.
and that they don't get released in scavenging like gurgriss xD
They won't be. There is no attached Creature just like Maximus and Gurgriss. Arena only.
Can you explain what types of changes are possible?
We have control over the following:
No. of players for each tourny. Join Cost. Allowing the use of Special Moves and Hellforging. The level the Tourny spawns at and the frequency it could appear for spawning.

i like the concept
a 32 person tournament for a specific item should spawn more ofthen then a 16 person tournament for the same item, is this what your getting at ?.
Im not sure how much that helps, as the item is still entering the marketplace at the same rate. Perhaps the fact thats it harder to get would elevate prices more.

That's a very cool idea. It would work great as long as we are getting straight up advice.

The prizes have not been mentioned as they have been discussed at length. We are designing 32 new sets. Half are to be Crystal, the other half Inventable (Probably from existing LE Sets).

Yes. More or less. The cost of the 32 would be divided between the players. A 16 would be divided between the 16 Players so would cost more. Plus we could add moves. An 8 would cost even more and have moves and Hellforging perhaps. 32 appears most, followed by the 16 then 8. You have less people to fight against but it would be tougher due to the extra options.
Does this sound good or terrible?

Of course, I understand that high level players want their potentially useful gear to be accessible to them. I'd like to say the same for low level players, where they don't have to rely on high level players to sell or give them arena gear. Yes, some people win Octo-Spine shields who have no use for them yet. On the other hand, how many people win Undead Spine gear who will ever make practical use of it other than in the arena? Things go both ways there. At level 200, 500, even 700, you have options to choose your arena level points. At level 10 or 25, your arena points are pretty well defined.
You say I have the option to level? Sure, I do to some extent. I would be trading my hindrances in the arena for hindrances on bounty hunting and other tasks, that part isn't terribly unfair. The trouble is, the arena was developed on skill, not levels. I don't win arenas from base stats, high levels, or even longevity in the game. I win my arenas based on my ability to gather and utilize the gear available to me.
I'm not bitter about this, don't get me wrong. I accept that I put limitations on myself, that I fought very hard to get my medal at this level. I'm just asking that if you're going to win gear I can use, let me have the occasional chance at winning gear you can use.
BigGrim, if you managed to read this much, I'd just like to ask a few things.
Please, be careful when introducing new low level gear. Most of my arena friends bemoan what happened to level 100+ arenas. 2k FSP is a behemoth investment for most high level players, 200 FSP is a mountain to lower levels.
Please, consider a "No Epics" checkbox. This has nothing to do with me. Much like how no hell forge arenas give the relatively poor a chance, no epic arenas would invite many more entrants.
Finally, please keep good prizes spread out enough that we lower levels still get a few shots. I don't ask to lock high level players out of tourneys to win low level gear, whether it is valuable or not. Really, if new low level gear were locked to under a certain level to win it, there would only be a handful cornering the market on it and inflating prices ridiculously.
Well, I mean, if you want to do that, I'm fine with it, but it would be rather self-serving for me to ask for. Would probably make arena silver a lot easier to go for though.

I like this idea. it would add insane (insane) diversity to have an arena common only...or that could be too much diversity as you have to keep 3-5 extra items for certain levels for the non-forged versions.

Do we really want to have 32 Player Tournies? We are keeping 16 and adding 8 but 32?
