the FallenSwordGuide - FIXED!!

Can HCS verify that the FSGuide data files are still safe and sound on their servers? And if they can give us the IP and server path to the files, we can at least make sure that the information is there and accessible from outside. If all the links are relative then the system might even function correctly with just an IP that could be posted here.
Interestingly, neither of the DNS servers listed by McBush seem to know anything about FS:
> server NS59.1AND1.CO.UK
Default Server: NS59.1AND1.CO.UK
Address: 195.20.224.84
>
> fallensword.com
Server: NS59.1AND1.CO.UK
Address: 195.20.224.84
*** NS59.1AND1.CO.UK can't find fallensword.com: Server failed
>
> fallenswordguide.com
Server: NS59.1AND1.CO.UK
Address: 195.20.224.84
*** NS59.1AND1.CO.UK can't find fallenswordguide.com: Server failed
>
> server NS60.1AND1.CO.UK
DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.

>And I should say, I FAR prefer the FSG to the FSW, due to mouseover popups and similar goodies (Not to mention that there's stuff missing for my level LOL!). That guide might not be perfect but it's pretty darn close!

I think it's unlikely that the problem is a cable, since Andrea/Hoof have said that the files are still on the servers. That implies that the servers are up and running correctly, since otherwise they would not be able to verify this, regardless of exactly where the files are located. IF the FSG is hosted on the same servers as FS, then the fact that we cannot access the domain name fallenswordguide.com but ~can~ access fallensword.com implies the DNS issue. One is resolved while the other is not. But without the IP addresses for the servers, it is not possible to test accessiblity, do traceroutes and such. However, I am very curious to know if they are hosted on the same servers..... The implication of McBush's post is that the hosting is not the same as for fallensword.

This IP address is what we entered when we had to correct the issue of the images not showing up, last time.
Then when Hoof fixed it we just started entering things with: /images/ [IMAGE FILE]
So your right.

Well, now I'm concerned. Unless they have some form of masking in place that absolutely prohibits direct IP access, I am getting 404 page not found errors when I substitute the IP for the domain name. The 'Guide' is on the same server as the images for Fallen Sword. I gave the IP address earlier.

Is it in a sub-directory by chance? /fsg/ or /fallenswordguide/? btw neither worked when I tried them.....

First thing I did was check the domain registration, as someone else has already posted, and saw it is good for another month or so.
However...
; <<>> DiG 9.3.2 <<>> @localhost fallenswordguide.com A ; (2 servers found) ;; global options: printcmd ;; Got answer: ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: SERVFAIL, id: 22180 ;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0 ;; QUESTION SECTION: ;fallenswordguide.com. No A record. This means a DNS issue. The domain name is not associated with an IP, so we can't resolve it. If the guide is being hosted on the same IP as the fallensword.com images, this is why entering only the IP in your browser does not produce the site. When multiple web sites are hosted on the same IP, you can't just put the IP in the address bar and hit a site, because the server needs other instructions in order to return a web site to you. The domain's A records need to be fixed.
Edit:
haha...

AHHH! That does make sense, I forgot about the load-balancing blah blah... BUT that is not an automatically updated entry... so someone screwed about with the DNS table..... phooy on them... wish I knew who so I could take them out back and kick their shins! It's not an unplugged cable.

But at least this tells us and more importantly HCS what the problem is. Hopefully now someone can fix the bloody thing and we can all snuggle back up to our honey LOL! SO many of us have such a dependency on that stuff!
