All the talk about paying not to get advertisements risks being short-term thinking.
If adverts don't degrade the game experience, no one will worry
If adverts do degrade the game experience, people will stop playing. Those who are already addicted may well pay to keep going, but new players won't see the point: they will just go elsewhere. After a while, that will also affect the committed players, because the sustainability of this game requires a constant flow through of people in all levels (you need other people growing into the levels you have just outgrown so that they can buy your equipment and you can buy the next LE set. Many of the problems with "that other game" can be traced to its inverted pyramid of players through the levels.)
So it all depends on what types of ads are being considered...

I think this game has a very pleasant look and that ads risk ruining that, thus lowering the enthusiasm of new players. Furthermore, I wouldn't be surprised if this game had one of the highest income over active player ratio in the industry, so what's really needed is player retention (lackluster fixes do not help with that like pvp exp loss) and recruiting of new players.

Keep FS spam free. Its one of the things that attracted me to this game in the first place.
Nobody likes spammy ads (except perhaps businesses that think it helps their business).

The game is and I think that will always be FREE to PLAY... You can buy FSP's to upgrade your character in a way to try to be better than the other. Nobody's asking you to spend money for that game so don't think you have privilege because you did.
Yes, the game IS, "technically" free to play, but just how long do you think the game would last if HCS received no revenue stream from it ? - a day/a week/a month ? - certainly nothing like as long as it has. HCS are a business - they can't afford to run at a loss - they have to think up ways of maximising their revenue streams. If putting an ad somewhere on the game environment affects someone that much, then they can :-
1. make the mimimum donation to turn the ad off.
2. accept the ad and carry on still playing for free, playing a game a lot of us donate to and keep running for the "freeloaders".
3. find something else to play.

I skipped all the previous pages, but I'll add my $.02 here.
Advertising is to be expected. I kind of like the current system of occasional reminders about Free Rewards but a separate PAGE to have to navigate to before being bombarded with the advertising.
If you put the messages in my log, or on the banner, frankly, I think it will take away from the charm of the game. It's NICE not to see that stuff. Oh, and I did a ton of them in earlier levels, and I donate now, too. I don't see the need to force it on anyone. Most players that will stick with the game and want to truly improve will find their way to the FSPs one way or the other.
