The Grand Graphics Tournament

How it would work:
Artists would enter and be paired up against each other randomly. A 3rd party would then choose a theme for each group and the winner of each group would move on to the next round. During the opening stages, depending on the number of participants, we may allow a few losses before disqualification. The winner would take Majority of the prize winnings and an award avatar/sig stating that they won the First Grand Tournament. The second place winner would win the rest of the prize winnings along with a "Silver" Award avatar/sig.
The Questions:
So there are of course. A handful of questions to ask. The most important being: Are you interested in joining?
Then the other questions of:
1) Should the themes be chosen by a specific person? A group of people? the Gotw RNG?
2) How much should the entry fee be if any? (This would help fund the prize)
3) How long should participants have to complete a graphic?
4) avatars? Sigs? Wallpapers? (I personally would like to see all of the above throughout the stages)
5) How would voting work? Would the artists name be mentioned? Or would their names be hidden until the winner of each bracket is announced?
My Take:
I don't mind organizing the tournament but I could use some help. The main question is if anybody wants to do it.
1) I don't mind coming up with some wacky themes for the stages. Maybe each stage would have an overall theme rather than specific theme for each group. A specific theme for each group would add variety but could seem unfair. ("hey how come that group got that theme? That theme seems easier! Blah blah blah".)
2) I think there should be a small entrance fee to contribute to the pot. If not another big question to ask is Who is going to fund it? I only have 4 fsps. I alone can't fund the winnings for such a large tournament.
3) I think a week is enough for most people to finish an entry.
4) Again, I would love to see all sorts of sizes of projects to be used. Maybe the overall theme for each week could be the size to work with and each group can be specific in what goes in it.
5) I don't think having the artists name displayed would hurt them. But it's been a tradition in Gotw to hide the names so I can understand if we'd like to keep it that way.
--------
So What's your take on this? Would you want to join?

Only problem is buying votes. 3rd party should be kept anonymous. People who don't actually visit the graphics forum much perhaps?
For the prize: Probably a buy in of 1-2 FSP? and other people could donate FSP to the tournament?
As for a tournament, it could be 1 week. People that could be involved may have work/school and can't go on as much on the comp.
And why not add a 3rd place? Not as big as a prize as 1st and 2nd but still good. Gold - Silver - Bronze etc.

Awesome! It could greatly liven up this dead forum.

Lol I watched you edit up your post 2 or 3 times before i could respond. =P
The third party could be anonymous, i don't know who'd we'd get though. and plus if we discuss who we're getting here on the forums they wouldn't be too anonymous anymore. XD
Edit: there would be two 3rd place winners then. in a normal bracket it's two on two with the winner moving on. so in the final stages it would be four people with two eliminated and two making it to first and second. so fist place would win maybe 90% of the pot, second place would win 6% and the two 3rd places would split the pot final 4%?
Edit: Thanks Fatal! So now we have 1 participant and 1 source of funding. ^^ (2 participants if I'm allowed to enter. i dunno if I'm allowed to if I'm the one organizing it.)

Could be the cows decide who wins? So HCS is more community involved

The 3rd place bracket? If not we could have a second round of voting for 3rd. Or we could go by a points system and judge all 4 at once. if there is a tie the cows or the community could decide.

Good idea, but would they do it?

Things we need to plan out:
- Themes
- How to vote
- Usage of avatars, signatures, wallpapers
- Number of participants (this determines numbers of rounds. Preliminaries, Main (longest part), Semi-finals, Finals)
- Date of the competition and how long it will and the voting time for each round
- The results of ties
And if anyone is caught cheating. They will be shamed forever! (or just disqualified from future comps?) Plus there is the chance of multis. Level limit to vote?

Yeah that is a problem. But hey, it doesn't hurt to try.

I'm thinking that we should keep it single elimination to save time. The length of the tournament mainly depends on how many people join.
Tie breakers could be trickier. What if to settle a tie, both participants have to take a provided stock image to use in a free style theme in only 3 days ( we have to continue the contest.)
We could expand the 3 days depending on if we have a recess between each event.
For themes I'll have to keep thinking. I'll probably have some ideas by tomorrow.
Hmmm for a level limit to vote... well for now i'll say no. If the prize pot becomes this huge ungodly amount then we might set one right before the contest starts. (someone could create multis now and then level up to whatever level we decide at this moment while they have time, thus if need be we should decide on the limit later on)

With regards to judging I think it would either have to be one of the cows who are naturally less likely to be bribeable (sic) or an open vote. One player may vote based on colours and another based on effects, it's too open to just let one player decide unless we go for a judges decision is final thing.

Seems like using a bracket system would work best in this case. All participants paired up with either single or double eliminations. What concerns me is if we would be changing the theme for each round cause we would be going through a lot of themes per tournie.
With voting, am I wrong in assuming we will be using the same voting format as GOTW because for someone like me, who is just your regular joe, if I see something is good, then it's good. I'm not like all these highly skilled artists that can pick a part the art and individually state why some parts are good and why others could use more work, in specific areas, using this and that....etc. You get the point, right? Worse comes to worse, it will merely be the same redundant phrase over and over. Would be nice to just vote for whichever one thinks is best and leave it at that.
Just my 2 cents.

By or before 3/6/10 we'll try to have an official topic with tournament registration and a system on how everything will work. I'll also try to open up donations for anybody who would like to contribute. *Hopefully I can get DJ on that. He already manages Gotw so people are more likely to trust him with the prize winnings. ^^*
I'll try to have a forum up for the tournament committee sometime tonight. I'm kinda feeling sick right now. Texas weather changes rapidly and I don't do so well when that happens. Last sunday it was nice and warm in the 70's and then tuesday it was snowing... and now its sunny and windy again in the mid 60's.
