I think everyone will agree that the invention components for the new sets needs to stay, and any that are 8 man tourneys for those items should be changed to 16.

Hmmm. Not sure. Could leave them in but the switch allows new bits to shiny for a bit before another switch round to bring previous bits back.

and please, more LE/SE items used in the recipes than components.

I'll only be adding one new component per set. It'll be used across the set with older LE/SE pieces being used for the rest.

The important thing to remember with this is that the original plan was to swap these in and out, ensuring the desire for them is more consistant, while absorbing some of the older sets/

you can do this now please, my arena gear is getting dusty :P

Hah, yeah well, that was before I saw the state of the Arena in Admin.

Once I have everything planned, I'll spend a full day stripping the existing non potion items out and rebuilding from the ground up. Should be a lot healthier.

Grim, is there going to be any sort of tweaking ongoing with the arena? A lot of the problems currently facing the arena could have been solved months ago if someone had simply gone in and tanked the prices for entry on the crystalline and recipe tournaments.

I'd hate to think you were going to put in all this work to fix the arena, and then realize that three weeks from now you're right back where you started....

Ongoing tweaks will be down to Forn. I'll help guide him but once this reboot is done, I'm back to Sigma.

You're right, BG, better to get them RIGHT than rush them out early. Thanks for letting us know you're working on things. Has one of the major issues from the last go round also been addressed, i.e., allowing anyone to invent an item, rather than only those who are at or above the item level? Also, if you are going to be using a lot more LE components, as was your original plan, doesn't that mean that theoretically we will need a constant stream of those LE components coming into the game? Therefore we might need the scavenging for LE's used in arena components to be at least a semi-regular thing? Either that or real LE's. Anyway, thanks for working on it, I'm glad you're doing it since you DO have the experience. Thanks.

All good points. And yes, Grim, I'm glad it's you doing this. Don't think I can explicate further without risking breach of forum rules.

You need to give Forn a crash course though because the arena could use checking out every 2-3 weeks on the status of prize prices, interest in recipes, balance of components appearance etc

Right now earning an Epic item from GvG is considerably easier than obtaining sets like Bothild, Bhaltairs and Ormarrs..It would be terrible to see that happen with the new sets and personally, i expect things to be worse since the current components will be spawning less often :?

As you said its not a healthy system at all..

P.S. Any thoughts on increasing frequency of forged/move tournaments compared to that of non-move/unforged ones?

Potentially, yes. That was the original plan in the past. Once we get the demand up it should help. Possibly help the overall economy too.

Not at present no, but I have not been watching the requests. The general idea was to ensure that those without moves or forging could still start in the arena without too much of a disadvantage.

Great to see BG and Forn on the job :) Have been excitedly refreshing the arena every 15 mins today and disturbing my work colleagues with a little sigh of disappointment each time...but having said that, I'm more than happy that BG's giving the system a good seeing to and doesn't want to release anything until he's happy with it.

Just had a peek through this thread and a couple of things caught my eye...personally I like the fact that you have to be a certain level in order to learn brices, ormarrs, etc. It's giving me an extra incentive to hit level 600 and beyond. The level of the arena should be related to the level of the players that can actually use the item. Connected to this is EW1000 pots appearing in level 10 tourneys....if a level 10 player somehow manages to win it what will he do with the pot?...give a rat a good poke in the eye? Well, to be bluntly honest, most of the potions that appear are useless....KE50, SW80, extractor...a cheap way to try out a new setup but small gold tourneys have the same effect and don't clog up your bp.

I've also been reading about a push by a couple of people to lower the invention success rates for arena items....considering I nearly gave myself a heart-attack trying to win all the components for the bhaltairs ring I fail to see how lowering the success rate will be of any benefit to anyone. It's virtually impossible to win the components as it is and I can't imagine anything much more frustrating & disillusioning than having them blow up in smoke in front of you. Before flaming begins I'm also not saying that it should be 100% success

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with Grim when it is ready for release...

In regards to the new inventable items I think it would be great if the items used came from a variety of places. LE items, SE items, elite items, scavaging items, plants, and arena components.. This would provide a boost across all spectrums of FA and give everyone a piece of the pie.

As it is, I am finishing off my notes and seeing what I need to build recipes for. Those will be built tomorrow, while Forn sorts the art once I let him know what we need. Once that is in place, I shall gut the Item arena and start repopulating. I aim to have this overhaul completed before weeks end.

I know this is a pipe dream, but what chance is there of announcing in advance the LE's that will be used in the new sets to avoid profiteering by just a couple of people? The first person to win one of the new recipes will have the advantage, of course and can have their guildmates buy up everything and jack up prices.

Oh, and one other thing while you're working on it, BG, in the past we talked about creating gold arenas with larger prizes than 1 million, like we had in the past. I can't imagine this being very difficult. Any chance you might want to take care of that as long as you're fixing stuff? If not, It's cool. Thank you.

The reasons that the price is that high for the bhaltair and the low amount of components is because the components limits for each refresh for the arena couple with the item section moving very slowly because of all the recipeshigh level 16 tourney items that clog up the arena, if these things are taken care of, the amount of components + the instant interest in the arena, alot more components will be brought into the arena, meaning deflation for these items will set in. Combine with the 100% the price for the set is gonna drop a whole lot.

Grim, before you release the new gear, can you sanity check the values given to enhancements on new gear?

see Ticket ZPL-241351 for an example about what I mean.
