that comment is rather contradictory when you consider the way humans behave.Look at this from the HCS perspective.nah, that's not the goal i was looking for. i see taking away any RP/other reward as making this pointless to kill unless you're doing the quest, which (not right now, but in the future) will make this epic quest a bit easy, since there won't be much competition to kill it. we might as well call it a fancy world map visible champion.
There's say 25-30k people level 100 or higher, so next consider the quest is released how intended(not like the current one was).
if just 10% of these people choose to do the quest (item not bound, so needed for guild or resale, or whatever) that's still ~3k people needing to do the quest.
Next consider the titan HP, say 3k. Reasonable assumption is 3-4 spawns on a good week.
How long will it take the existing players to earn that reward? That is truely epic. Especially with other players up and coming all the time who will have an interest in it as they reach level 100.
This is why titans should not have a prize for first. As soon as there is any prize of value, it becomes a game of economics and the average joe bloggs no longer has a reasonable chance of getting the epic as one or (if we are lucky) 2 guilds hoarde all the kills for personal gain. I can assure you this is not what HCS intend with these quests.
sure, right now it's incredibly competitive. give it a couple months after most have completed the quest or given up. i think these titans will sit for DAYS. the water titan already does but even the lower ones would be the same way.
Firstly, the current elemental titans are not usable as an example of what future events will be like for the simple reason many people were able to take advantage of the unintended implementation method. So putting this aside for a moment.
I will work with you, on the assumption that future epic quests will be done the same way as these are currently done(there is no indication that this will be the case). At there start there will be a flurry of activity yes as everyone rushes to see what the wonderful new items are. After a couple of months most of the hardcore titan hunters and a few others will have their items.
What then happens is those who "gave up" earlier, now have the perfect opportunity to start doing the quest for their reward. With less competition, there will be a lot of players who will be more than happy to spend a couple of hours getting some kills, whether they do it in a single hunt or break it over a few hunts.
So in short, people, as humans will want to go for the uber items. Some may know it's better to wait a little before they go for it. The rules of supply and demand will determine the competitiveness of any titan. If the last items are anything to go by, it will be a long time before any new titan(using the same reward system) sits idle.
