So I decided to make a avatar for my friend and here is the result of 1 hours work messing around.
Is the avatar I made good? Or is it just a text slap? Sorry if I suck :(

The original picture I used was this.

Try posting the full sized link, that link takes me to a page that says there is no image to display.

if you want to learn how to make a signature or avatar, you can always join gfx forums and try looking for tutorials.
a great place to start would be Deviantart.com, go there and search signature tutorial, you will learn somethings that can be applied to making signatures as well.

if you like anime, you might want to check out the forum below, click my sig (animerender)

Good luck

while i don't like the text placement or font the rest isn't too bad for a first try. There are some good tutorials right here in the Graphics section that can help you to learn more : viewtopic.php?f=21&t=89422

For a beginner tutorial that truly starts with just the basics yet gets really good results try : http://www.sigtutori... ... runge.html

That one with just the basics working there way up is really interesting. Iv messed around a bit with that and got some good results. I should have a sig with that tut soon once I semi understand layers.

Yes I saw it looks good. Only one thing weird on my Photoshop is I am a noob when at the part were it says merge both layers. I can't find that option no matter were I look but I will give it another try.

Btw playing with the brushes is fun :D :D

 You bought photoshop?!?! Im just using GIMP, so I cant help you with merging. In gimp you just have to right click on the layer and its one of the options.

No silly who buys it. You just download the free version then use a key gen. I just happened to find a YouTube video with like 20 keys and the one I put it worked and didn't ask me for me key everytime I opened it.

Nice, Considering that it's not a text-slap but unfortunately I cannot say the same for the overall quality; Text is badly placed and the color is too intense, The render does not blend in at all, There's too much noise ( Around the eyes ) ( Or perhaps there's something wrong with my eyes ) and the lighting is not good as well... at least reflect some blue on the focal. And not to forget the abnormal 1px gap at the top and right ( It's probably how you made your border but I see it as abnormal ). Don't take it too seriously, That's just my opinion.
