It's Interesting reading this thread. While reading it something dawned on me. You see the Top 10 guilds sometimes recruiting, saying they only want the best of the best of Fallen Sword, Great players, No Guild Hoppers, etc. But yet their requirements are so strict and you have to be at such a high level , if you want to join any of the top guilds and you aren't already IN the top guilds, you have to basically take advantage of all the amenities that another guild has to offer to build you up to the required level to join the top guild you want, and then you have to Guild Hop to join them.

All of which is exactly why I'll never leave Sun to join a "top guild".

If a player isn't good enough to join one of those guilds then the point is moot.

If they are, they became a great player with a great character and accomplishments due mostly, if not entirely, to the guild that supported them. How exactly is another guild, except in cases of guild death or complete change of playstyle, going to improve on that?

It's not going to, is the short answer.

I swears .... I'm cursed! I seem to kill a guild after being in it for a decent bit of time! :(

Id like to say 3 here, In reality I've been in 6.
5-10 Guild004, First guild, no clue why I joined It was already dead lol
10-25 Oracle of the Dead, Went on a mass recruitment and a guildmate from 004 went there so I followed, guild soon was systematically dismantled and left to rot.

25-158 Pagan Wolves, My first home. Made many friends there and loved my time. I learnt so much from so many people and when I rose to the staff ranks I believe I returned the favour a few times over. After awhile I felt I needed to move in order to better enjoy the game as I believed PW was turning into a job more than a game.

158-511 Celtic Warriors, Honestly... no idea where to start. I became me here lol Formed many a close friendship, met some amazing people. It was weird being a small fish in a large pond but after awhile I got used to it. Again somehow I managed to get onto staff, makes you wonder for the future of all nations if I can make it to co-founder  Anyway, in pretty much a carbon copy of PW, being on staff became more of a chore than it should have. It started to make me fight with friends, that's something I don't think should happen just because your on staff. As a result I, along with others took the much agonised over, very difficult step of leaving. This was THE hardest day of my FS life to date. I was a mess lol Honestly, I don't know how some people can move all over the place...

511-511 and a bit  Inglorious Me and Reg, Had planned on staying for a bit but a spot opened up. Will always cherish the memorys of those days alone... with Reg.... and cake (really was like 30 mins lol)

511-Now For Fracks Sake The ONLY place I ever even considered going if I ever left CW. I made a lot of friends with the frackers through titans and got to know a few over Skype too. Fantastic bunch. I expected some things, but others have surpassed expectations. For one, frackers are not heartless FSP making/leveling machines as I picked up from the forum  j/k But ya, I'm not going anywhere, and am never getting on staff, always ends up messing stuff up lol

What about if said player is supporting the guild rather than the other way around?

1. Started in Black savant until about 150. Left to help form Bushido.
2. Bushido for a while, but I left when me and some of the newer members disliked my management style.
3. Pyroteknik until Pyro and Vent got banned. I actually quit FS for a few weeks, and told Vent via myspace to just kick me, and when I came back both founders had been banned.
4. Tried 2 other guilds, The Death Seekers and TEQ, left due to incompetent management and rude guild founders.
5. Founded my first Guild, Asahara's Dojo (didn't work out.) Went broke and move on.
6. Joined Warrior kings, stayed there from August of '09 till about a month ago.
7. Tried my hand at running another Guild, Earth's Creation, where I'm at today.

I was going to ask the same.... I literally learned nothing from and could've easily done it all on my own compared to how much I've tried supporting the first two guilds.

Hell .. even had all my own PvP gear for the second one, and from what I've sunk into it, I could've easily gotten some cheap leveling (or releveling. lol) gear....

First guild - WGStampers.... I was here a long time as I joined it because many of us enjoyed another obsucure hobby of tracking where our money goes (www.wheresgeorge.com)

Second Guild - Gutbusters Brigade..... I spent about 3 days here but it just was not for me at that time.

Third Guild - Ground Zero..... Created a guild with some friends

Forth Guild - FFS.....Honestly I was lured away from my own guild in search of riches (SE was big at the time and Rets had talked to me some) Left after some minor stupid issues.

Fifth Guild - Ground Zero.... Rejoined and once again took the helm of a guild I started. Still here and will stay here til I retire/get banned/die.

This is my second guild. As a noob I joined the first guild that invited me. After a couple of weeks of watching the founder build structures, then destroy them only to build something else I decided it was time to move on. Thankfully I had already received an invite to my current guild. I was about lvl 25 (give or take.)

Honestly, that depends. If a guild can't survive without the input and investment of a single player - no matter who it is - then that guild is dead or dying. If you're getting less out of a guild than you're putting in, then it becomes a judgment call - only an individual player can say how much they're willing to give before they feel they're not getting enough in return. Your question is phrased in such a way as to imply that the guild is offering a player absolutely no support in return though - and in that case, I say again, that's a symptom of a dead or dying guild.

Joined thirty somethings at level 15
Left at level 135ish (thirty somethings were merging with MoA, one player was left behind to kept thirty somethings a guild)
At this point I almost quit but decided to stay after selling a SE location to a player that gave me both the drop and 100 FSP (Baron Helm)
Almost joined CotH but decide to help an ally form the guild Librarians of Alexandria (focusing on plant farming and potion making)
Stayed there till level 220ish
The original crew from thirty somethings decided reform so I went back.
