How about the following idea?
If anyone places a bid in an auction that is about to end in less than one minute, then the auction is extended for one minute. So as long as players are bidding the auction extended further and further one minute at the time.
I think this rule would make auctions more exiting because it would allow players to respond to bids made by other players, and the rule would make it harder to win an auction placing a bid during the last 5 seconds.
BTW: If you go to the auction page and sort the auctions after "min bid", then the the website then the auctions are typically sorted something like this
1 FSP -> 1 GP -> 100 FSP -> 1000 GP -> 1000000 GP
The problem is that the website does not know that an FSP is worth more than a GP. Would it be possible to change the sorting mechanism so that the auctions were sorted like this?
1GP -> 1000 GP -> 1000000 GP -> 1 FSP -> 100 FSP.

Perhaps for the special section to further gold sinks otherwise just gives a chance for noobs to retry auction sniping.

don't like the idea, just raises the prices on potions even more. Nice gold sink, but I want my potions. Everyone has the ability to snipe for bids at the last second.
Your second idea is confusing, not sure what you meant. The Auction House sorts FSP first by highest amount going down till you get to the lowest amount of FSP. Then it shows the highest gold bids going down till you get to the lowest amount of gold. The system seems fine to me.

You describe the mechanism that I am asking for.The Auction House sorts FSP first by highest amount going down till you get to the lowest amount of FSP. Then it shows the highest gold bids going down till you get to the lowest amount of gold.
When I press the link named "min bid", then the auctions are sorted after amount rather than currency. So 1 FSP comes first, followed by 1 GP, then 2 FSP then 2 GP, and so on. As a result the 100 GP gold auctions are hidden somewhere in the middle of the list. I know that I can use special options to hide the FSP auctions, but it would be easier if the auctions where sorted in a different way.
