The coding could be hard at points but there are easy things that they put in as well ...
The mass total of the coding will look like a mess to most people and it will blow their minds but if you`ve learnt it propperly the only thing hard about coding is encountering something you dont quite know how to do ...
This is why it is always good to have a team of coders instead of a single coder.

true nut coding is very hard unless you are good at math * integers factors ..... etc etc variables ..... more etc etc etc .. absolut values and more etc etc etcI wouldnt completly agree with you Sandrab ...

Server farms are expensive. Games like this need multiple servers, load balancers, and a very great amount of bandwidth. We're not talking a couple of servers, but an entire server farm for each of their games. This gets costly. Then there's staffing requirements. You need graphic artists, coders, server administrators, and more.
They obviously spend the money expanding their games as you can tell, with recent developments.
I'm sure staff gets some wages, although probably not enough to drive around ferarri cars.
Yes coding involves brain work. You can fry your head quite easily staying up many long hours, and trying to solve complex issues.
Just something to note that there's alot of gripe at all times on these forums from every which direction, and I'm impartial but I have an idea what they must go through to deliver what everyone takes for granted. Keeping in mind everyone donates to the game in some form, but obviously some more than others. Everyone does have a right to an opinion but at least keep them respectful after some thought on the information I've provided you, and I don't even work for these guys. It probably gets hard listening to it all, while trying to get their games where they want them, and in the directions they want, but at the same time listening to the wants and whims of everyone who's given a red penny. Patience is about all I can suggest to people.

A lot of effort goes into this game sure, the funds this game generates do NOT all go towards the upkeep/wages/hosting of FS though. I just hope HCS know what they're doing, spending an awful lot of money going 3d, playing with some 'big daddy' companies with sprawling behemoth's of a game..
Credit where its due of course, the eldevin shots look very nice, I just think if they plan on going toe to toe with the likes of Blizzard they are going to have to up their game dramatically, I just hope 'that' doesn't spell the end for FS..

Pretty sure I heard that FS and SS2 share servers. Or more to the point servers were given over from one game to another? This forum also shares, usually when one goes down ALL go down..

They don't share servers I can assure you.
If they shared servers both sites would be having caching issues, like what is being experienced over on ss2, plus you really don't realize the amount of server power required to run sites like these with so many database calls per second?. We're not talking your average web server or forum software here. I'm going to guess that there's an entire mountain of hardware, ram, and load balancing between servers going on. Probably entire racks of them.
Keep in mind a single quad core with 4 gb of ram can range from 100 to 200 per month, and each on of these games would require a mountain of them. We're talking likely astronomical figures here per month, and enough that one couldn't even consider that they don't care about their games. These things are huge, and cost a penny to run. I know. I've been a provider. Every time you hit refresh it probably sends about 100 calls to the database and that's just a single user. Imagine just for a moment what 2-3k players doing this at any given time of the day, 24 hours per day would require in regards to hardware. You all have to remember that the cows don't allow advertisers, they haven't been bought by google like other sites such as youtube, myspace etc (Thank god).
I'm just saying these guys work hard, and if you've ever done my job you'd see that.
There's not as much profit in this I am sure from doing estimations on my end, that you people might imagine. They're just working with what they can, and building building building. Cut the cows some slack. If it weren't for them you'd have to go out and live in real life!

FS: 00:59

Server: 10.10.99.12
SS2: Server Time:

I find it odd i'm always on the same server number between the 2 games.

I'm sure both games simply use the same base software which means they would also use the same server configuration and same number of servers for each game, adjustable of course by overall loads, but no. Each game would probably be on it's own farm. That's just showing you that there's probably 20 or more servers for each game. The only other possibility would be that they're running apache on the same server sets, but using completely different database servers. I'd have to do some digging to tell you for sure, but right now.. Well I still haven't had my coffee *Yawn*

Good morning Forn lol.

No reason one server can't host both games at the same time. Doing so allows better load balancing: if people aren't playing FS, more server resources are available for SS2, and vice-versa.Just logged on SS2 and it shows that I am on Server 13, which is what FS just showed me when I reloaded there.
Co-incidence, perhaps...
The best evidence of shared servers would be shared lag: does SS2 also slow down when FS gets overloaded?
Yeah, I just doubted the guy who above said that SS2 pobably had 20 or more Servers lol
No idea, not played SS2 in yonks.
Make sense that their on both since they are both similar in nature and have the same player base(Just SS2 much smaller)

What I said, is that it's possible BOTH games are on the same server farm which includes over 20 servers, and that they probably might each have their own database servers, and that I didn't have time to actually examine by IP's and network routing.
There's a couple configuration options neither of which I have been having time to explore yet. I'm just basing my opinions on my knowledge of what would be required at this point.

Each game has completely seperate database servers however - the database resources are not shared.

There is a pool of http servers which handle the http requests for the games.

err... can you speak English please ? 8)
