There is a pool of http servers which handle the http requests for the games.

Each game has completely seperate database servers however - the database resources are not shared.

err... can you speak English please ? 8)

Yeah that was one of my thoughts hoof. Thanks for clearing it up. I knew there was no way each game wouldn't have it's own db server.

not to be a pain, but I am.... Then why do the games usually go down at the same time? Is it because you guys pool the http servers together? Is there possibly a way to seperate them without a bunch of overhead?

Because probably it wouldn't be fair for other players for the game (The way balancing works as well as databases), and would probably lead to errors in the database for all the servers not to die at once. They go down because both games are (served) through the same httpd.conf likely of the same server farm. It's the the database servers that are standalone for each game. Apache can handle many requests but databases can become overwhelmed easier in most cases before apache does.
Assuming apache is used (Likely). Again I have not looked .

Ideally this is the kind of configuration you want for a high traffic site with alot of db calls.
It would be working backwards to try and separate the server cluster.

If HCS wanted to go toe-to-toe with Blizzard, they'd have to first invest $60 million dollars in the game, then start making $210 million a month somehow.

Because that's what Blizzard did and does. :D
