OK cool. Thanks for the clear feedback. I like the idea to set rules so I'll address each one.

So here is what I propose instead:

*The ability to set rules. This way the players who aren't sitting in the #1 guild can challenge others based on personal or guild wealth creating a more even playing field. The possible rules a challenger could set would be as follows
-Level restriction on Gear: Obviously for a "duel" to be fair gear should be limited to that of the lower level players maximum level but I'm sure someone is going to say that's stupid so I'll place it under the "rules."

Level Restriction is already mentioned. The Challenger can set the level range during the creation of the Duel. Gear level is already restricted to player's current level.

-Item Rarity: Not everyone can afford epics and the Arena has tournaments that disallow them too, so there's no reason you shouldn't be able to request a duel without them. You may ban gear in the manner of you can only use gear below the level that you have banned. So if you set Legendary Gear to be banned you would also be banning Epic Gear. If you set it to ban Elite Gear you would be banning Legendary and Epic.

Checkbox: Epic
Checkbox: Legendary

Other rarities can be obtained by everyone, therefore doesn't need to be restricted.

-Forged Gear: Pretty self explanatory.

Checkbox: Forged

-Buffs: Pretty self explanatory.

Checkbox: Buffs

-Guild Bonuses: Pretty self explanatory.

Checkbox: Guild Bonuses

The following Checkboxes will be added:
Checkbox: Epic
Checkbox: Legendary
Checkbox: Forged
Checkbox: Buffs
Checkbox: Guild Bonuses

After adding these Checkboxes, I think the Duel Points should be divided into Duel Point Classes:
Duel Crystal: Checkbox checked [Epic, Legendary, Forged, Buffs, Guild Bonuses] ... Best of the Best
Duel Gold: Checkbox checked [Epic, Legendary, Forged, Buffs]
Duel Silver: Checkbox checked [Epic, Legendary, Forged, Guild Bonuses]
Duel Bronze: Checkbox checked [Buffs, Guild Bonuses]
Duel Blank: Checkbox checked [....]

If you allow more options you allow for more creativity and interesting battles.

Beg,

1. why 10 wins for a Duel? Why not make it 5 e.g.? I think a duel should be swift.
2. concerning gear and buffs :
a) gear : I think your checkboxes are ok. Would it be possible to switch gears between rounds?
B) buffs : how many buffs will you allow? All? 10? 5?
3. Prizes : Are you opting for a ladder system like PvP? or medal system? A grand prize at the end ?
4. you special note says : "Player's gear cannot be seen until after the Duel began" How can you anticipate your opponent then? Or am I getting it the wrong way?

The problem you folks are going to run into is that in many ranges, limiting epics does nothing (from a pvp perspective).

For example, from 400-600, there's only one epic with any pvp applications at all: Skaldirs, and that only in an armor damage setup.

Fuvayu blocks fury bourne and opticor and dark blade. It's KIND OF okay with balaurs, but you could be using shu zi instead.

Razored Azure? LOLDEATHSHEAD.

Blue Man? LOLELEMENTALS.

Tsuki? Blocks Balaurs from a defense perspective, as well as zhang.

Bladed War Gauntlets? Okay, seriously, if you want defense damage from 550 to 600, Yojimbo's, guys.

The really hefty gear in those ranges is the legendary stuff, and if you take that away it gets boring, real quick.

Gravely, it's not limiting.
During the creation of the Duel, the Challenger can specify what Duel Class.
I have updated the main post already.

1. why 10 wins for a Duel? Why not make it 5 e.g.? I think a duel should be swift.

10 wins is similar to Bounty.
First to win 10 battles is relatively fast.
Let's say PlayerA won 6 battles for 6 successful attacks.
PlayerB lost 4 battles from failed attacks, then PlayA already got 10 wins.

Remember, it's 2 minutes between each attack by a player.
2 players can attack at the same time.

2. concerning gear and buffs :
a) gear : I think your checkboxes are ok. Would it be possible to switch gears between rounds?
B) buffs : how many buffs will you allow? All? 10? 5?

Answer to A .. registered gears can be switched after each attack.

Answer to B .. No limit on buffs.

3. Prizes : Are you opting for a ladder system like PvP? or medal system? A grand prize at the end?

During the Duel creation, the Challenger specified the Duel Class and Duel Prize.
Each player deposits the specified Duel Prize, then the total Duel Prize is the final Duel Prize.
The winner gets the Duel Prize and +1 point for that Duel Class.
The defeated gets -1 point for that Duel Class.
Because of the + and - point system, only the Best can maintain the high points for that Duel Class.
Eventually, the Duel Class points can be used as a ladder.

4. you special note says : "Player's gear cannot be seen until after the Duel began" How can you anticipate your opponent then? Or am I getting it the wrong way?

Before the Duel starts, NO GEARS will be seen.
After the Acceptor accepted the Duel, then gears on each player will be shown.
Battle begins 5 minutes after the Acceptor accepted the Duel.

Beg, I realize it's not a limitation.

What I'm trying to tell you is that Epics don't play a role in most high level PvP encounters. In fact, the only high level epic that plays a role in pvp is the Ridged Legionnaire Breastplate, and it may have just been superceded by the new Agiads set.

You cannot simply design just for the highest level players. That used to be the only thing they'd ever do. High level content update, high level content update, high level content update, high level content update, high level content update, high level content update, high level content update.

In allowing the customization of dueling rules you now have that. It is an excellent compromise between the pros and the Joes.

You're still not getting what I'm saying.

Post 200, only 1 epic matters. Maybe after 300, it goes up to 2. After 400 it goes right back down to 1, and after 500 it's back to 0.

That's the vast majority of the game, not just the "highest level players".

Customization is most definitely the way to go, but you have to understand that the vast majority of the game from a PvP perspective has legendaries that are epic in nature, and then everything else.

Legendaries now comprise the basis for at least 80% of my sets. Epics have a place in exactly two.

And if you don't want to use Legendary gear you may cancel those out as well. Who knows what else the cows will be releasing. This is the same problem that occurs every time something gets a major update, they don't look at from every angle and end up breaking something.

Admiral, Gravely is not saying allowed all gears. He's pointing out that Epic gears don't really matter much so you can understand that Epic doesn't meant the BEST.

I never said it was always the best but at the lower levels you will feel the strain of having to compete against them more. I will have access to every level 100 epic once I get there so this is not a matter of ME not having them.

How come PvPers are not interested in this idea?
I came up with this idea for PvPers.
