It may be unrealistic, but how about this
you get a choice of recipes you can buy
mace + item 1 = armor/damage flail
mace + item 2 = defense/attack flail
ect, ect
if you have 5-6 variations, you amazingly increase the demand for a flail, because players can almost customize if for their personal needs
would completely reinvigorate the market for colossus

Recipe of Blue Infernal Boots
Ingredients:
1- Mace of colossus
1- Blue man of war sword
4- inferno hammer
Result:
Blue infernal boots
High attk/dmg boots
+100 stam
+3 stam gain
+2 xp gain
Yes, it would cost a lot, but it sure is worth it!
Worth it if you have enough Inferno hammers in the AH to equip a whole guild?

and what about those who don't have the funds to buy acherons or volkers. Not everyone is built on pantloads of pills. The mace is a great option for those who don't have the funds yet can put in time towards a mace. Boo, the game is not all about you and how much profit you can make ya know.with volkers and acherons theres never a need to even consider attack while hunting .... assuming it will be less damage than the elemental blade it should really be def or armor. Preferable armor - maybe with +60 hp (before forges) - make it useful for pvp. Although ideally I think almost everyone would like to see it used in a recipe that makes another epic like boots.

and for it to be useful in pvp, come on this is something you don't have a clue withIt's already widely used in it's current state in PvP/GvG, in fact that's where it is mostly used. I'd suggest you understand pvp gear, sets and requirements before suggesting +60 HP
That's only going to make it useful for a couple of people in the arena, and come on, there's enough people tanking armor and not enough stats elsewhere in the arena

Come up with something constructive rather than a petty snub and you may get some, what's it called... oh yeah, respect.and what about those who don't have the funds to buy acherons or volkers. The game shouldn't be about gear that costs 3-4 figure amounts of FSP. It's about having options. Because something is not useful or valuable to you, doesn't mean it's not to someone else

not to make light of the bickering, but I lol at this for some reason...must be tired...
anyway, just had an idea, maybe it's stupid, maybe not, but if I don't write it down now, I'll forget it...
what if you (HCS) created a Blacksmith's shop somewhere in the realms, where you could take your Colossal Fa...Flail, and pay/choose to change it's stats. Either have preset options, like a 'PVP' with high attack, or have the ability to allocate the points as you wish, with certain limitations, i.e. no more than 1500 damage or 100 hp or whatever. People could then make their own decision, and the ones that want to keep the Mace as is, can do so. And those that choose to alter their weapon, can only do so once - maybe the smithy only appears once, after you've done it, it disappears a la quests.
I have no idea if this is do-able, nor have I thought it out....but I'm throwing it out there anyway, please be gentle

I had an idea similar to this, it's disappeared down the pages though, a bump would help.

I stopped reading after seeing the ideas that I liked best:
1. A companion item (boots?) to make the first epic set.
2. Converting the flace (flail/mace) into another item type (again, boots?).
3. Using negative stats to increase two others.

Each incarnation could be obtained via recipe.
.....
Were not wanting to go into 5 different versions of one item, maby some time in the future for some specific reason or quest we could do something like that
