PVP Idea

We all know that there is a number of well organised PvP guilds out there who will just punish you if you try and defend yourself or say stuff that they dont agree with.. even the new system of the PvP board is being exploited by groups and guilds of people.. so that unless you are in one of those guilds or have a previous "arrangement"..then .. you have little or no chance of finishing in the top 30 .. I see it every week.. with some "unknown" in the top 10 of the PvP board .. and then bang.. he is not even in the top 50 anymore.. because there has been a cordinated and pre planned.. attack on him.. So in reality.. there is just about no chance for 99% of the game population to have access to the new sets and equipment.. unless they are prepared to pay through the nose for it.. from the very people who are attacking you.. is this good for the game..? I think not!

I like the idea leos .. My style of gameplay is that I enjoy to level.. makes me feel good each week to edge up the board.. I also enjoy PvP .. by playing the arena and GvG.. mainly because it is at no risk to my experience level..and that I have a choice to be involved in it.. getting randomly attacked .. takes away my choices....
Sadly, this is what many PvPers are refusing to accept. Many claim that "PvP" is not "player versus player", but THEIR favorite flavor of it, "player versus a sitting duck that, when hit, has the option to a) fight back (which they have little interest in probably)
Claims like "opt out would kill PvP" actually prove how badly PvP sucks in the game and how the PvPers know it. What prevents them from fighting each other and enjoying PvP against the best? They NEED the levellers to have their fun (whereas the levellers don't need PvPers at all to have their fun). This is a big imbalance. Why cannot I enjoy the game I like (levelling) and at the same time spoil their fun? If they're able to take my gold and XP, I want to be able to take their ability to attack or make them gain no gold in combat - in other words, I want to be able to hit them where it will hurt them - WHILE doing something I like and risking something I don't really care about very much. Yes, it's taking it to the extreme, of course, but without taking it to the extreme, many people refuse to understand why opt-out is so much in demand (and why even a partial opt-out that protects your XP only would be appreciated by many).

The point, for many, isn't really opting out of PvP, it's opting out of the completely indefensible XP loss. Frankly, I'd be for the opt out system even if it meant I lost double gold and lost the ability to bounty gold hits.
I like this idea better for purely selfish reasons lol.
And Kibora, please stop tainted the threads you post in with agonizing levels of idiocy.

you're such a contradiction of ideas at any given time its just pathetic...one day you're trying to change this and the next day you're off on another chenge that was the opposite of whatever the first idea was...in how you word things sometimes i wonder if you dont go to a restaurant, order a bowl of chicken noodle soup and then return it demanding your money backX10 if one of the noodles happens to stretch over the side of your spoon or not be the same size as the rest in the bowl
pvp is a part of this game whether you choose to engage in it or not..its not a difficult task to "opt out" of it if you make the proper changes to your gameplay style...ie:gold onhand, making anti-pvp comments, the fact that your guild founder has the threat of taking 5 from anyone who attacks as well as that it was in your guild history for the longest time(btw, i just never found anyone over there with any gold in my range or i'd have tested it)

It would stop the unnecessary bullying of players though...I like that part.

I'm not trying to change anything today

Yep, it's part of this game. A very misdesigned part, neglected for a long time and full of illogical issues. And that's why I welcome every suggestion that either attempts to fix some of those problems or diminishes their impact. I'm not a fan of total opt-out at all (even though I'm convinced that it would not kill pvp at all), but this idea seems like a feasible compromise, so why not?
making anti-pvp comments
anti-pvp? Or "anti-the-way-the-loud-pvpers-on-the-forum-claim-is-the-one-and-only-pvp"?
the fact that your guild founder has the threat of taking 5 from anyone who attacks
Yea, he stopped playing back before the VL nonsense was introduced... the delevels were of some good use back then

I'm undecided about this, while PvP is a part of this game, be it a small part, I'm still not sure you should be able to opt-out of it, I like that if it did happen people could still be hit though.

I don't think that opting out from XP-loss only would be a big loss for the game. No issues with getting hit for gold at all, I think that most people accept this and have learned to take measures. I've been attacked for gold just once in the last year, becoming a contributor to StangValle's cake... and if a guildmate gets hit for gold, I usually ask them "how much did you have" followed by "and why did you have so much"?

lol.. have you bumped you head .. prior to writing that...? .. "making anti pvp comments" .. this is an open forum.. open for discussion of a subject .. not an oppotunity to threaten or intimidate people because their opinion is not the same as yours.. everyone is entilted to their opinion..
I dont like PvP in it's present form !! there I said it.. does that mean now that a mob is going to come hunting for me with pitchforks and burning brands ?.. the whole point of this thread was to somehow work out a way to make it a bit fairer for both sides .. PvP'ers and Levellers.. I dont want to see PvP stopped in the game.. I firmly believe that it has it's place.. but if I make a consious decision not to play that part of the game.. then it should be respected and the developers of the game should ensure that it is also protected.. I am a paying customer as well.. and should have a few rights about how I wish to play the game within it's parameters.. and I should not have to feel that I am being forced into a part of the game that holds no interest to me!

then at least you're reasonable and can understand the logistics of why people generally get attacked..obviously this doesnt cover all the reasons but this is a good portion of it...xp loss is a driving factor in pvp though, i know that i use it as a bargaining tool when i hit people
btw, you seemed to have glossed over the chicken soup thing, is it true then?

who was making threats? the initial part was how to opt-out of pvp...and we both know making comments like that is what attracts players to keep an eye on you and watch..how many players have been hit for threats in their bios? and trust me, i'd never choose to use a burning brand to come after you, i might melt

There is a huge difference between saying that you don't like pvp, or presenting a solution to a problem, real or perceived, that's well thought out, like leos's is, and coming on the forum and ranting like a certain player recently did when they said:
I know I'm not alone in being unamused by the brats running around unsupervised and attacking unsuspecting players. Really, what's the point? To prove you can act like a thug?
If we could opt out of open PvP activity, it would free the player not interested in interrupting their game to change gear, deposit gold and place bounties to get on with just playing the game how they'd like.
If you want to have the brats run up behind you and mug you then by all means, Opt in.
It's posts like that that practically beg for 100 stam, not posts that simply say they "dislike" pvp.

It wouldn't be a loss at all really, seeing as most PvPers hit for gold, and the other ones who hit for XP are usually bullyers, so that's no loss

DOUBLE the gold loss for opt outs and increase xp gain while hunting for opt ins and you get my vote.
Funny enough I thought about doubling gold loss myself, not sure how it would work though

I'm pretty sure it would work just like it does now, except gold loss/gain would be 2 times normal
Yeah I know, I was thinking that it would bring more gold into the game for some reason, think I need more sleep

I've been there, Andy.
Its only fair that some incentive/penalty be implemented if there is even a discussion of an opt out.
