So...I haven't posted in a LONG time. But, in that time I've thought of an incredible new type of item. Currently, there is a type of item available called "Crystalline". The point of this item was that they would only last for so long, then break, rendering them useless. However, with the way the Arena works, and high powered potions, these items can, and often do, last for an incredibly long period of time. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it is when you consider the lack of a market for them. The point of these items was for them to be relatively powerful at their levels, be used and disappear so the creatures that gave them could be released more often and keep things interesting. That is sadly not the case. So...I came up with a new type of item...

It is----wait for it---"Decaying".

This item would be more powerful than Legendary and Crystalline, and could have properties of Epic items, however, as the name implies, it decays over time. The rate of decay would be 1 durability per hour, and 1 durability per Arena entry. These items would be unable to take damage in combat like regular items are, and the buffs/enhancements that have the ability to cause extra damage to items would not work on them.

Some ideas for items off the top of my head would have 0 stats in the usual areas...they would also have 0 enhancements. However, they would increase your stamina gain per hour, or xp gain per hour. These items would not be able to be crafted or fixed. Random names might be: Helm of Knowledge(+25% hourly xp gain), Resting Slippers(boots that would give + hourly stamina gain)...etc.

The durability would be decreased when a player receives their hourly stamina/xp gains if the item is equipped. This will allow for planning on when it is best for everyone to use these items, and makes it so the can't be thrown on for 5 minutes to get the bonus, then taken off to preserve them.

I really only touched on stamina/xp gain items, but others could be % gains to specific stats, or gains on an item. I think this would be most useful in the arena. An idea for that would be a ring that doubles the stats of the equipped gloves, or an amulet that increases all stats a %. The % would have to be done properly so they are not game-breaking, but they also need to be enough that people consider using them.

The last way to take durability, if say you leveled, but it lasted less than an hour...The items would take 1 durability loss per hour if used during a PvE encounter. This would reset every hour when you gain xp/stamina.

Hopefully that all makes sense. Feel free to add-on, criticize, or applaud.

*like*

Imo, though, HCS would have to be very careful about how long the items last for, and how they're introduced...

If there were decaying items sets, player would tend to wear the sets. Remember, set bonuses don't break when items durability reaches 0.

I would just repair decaying items to bump up the durability.

Sometimes, player keep wearing crystalline items even if their durability reaches 0, because broken items still count for sets.

And for decaying items, the bonuses should not decrease as durability decreases but bonuses should go down to 0 as durability go down to 0. Then I just repair it to bump it up to 100%.

1. These items can not be repaired...ever.
2. They wouldn't be sets.

I think the durability decay rate will varies. But it could be 1% per hour.

And by the way, I made a new unofficial newbie guide.

+1

OT: I love the idea, but if it is implemented cows would have to go into fine detain the amount it decays, and the gains it gives.

I would think that after the item "decays" to 0 it can either be brought to a possible shop to repair it, but for a hefty amount of gold, that or it just goes *poof*
