I'd say dealing with those cheating in areas of the game would be a good start.any ideas on how we can get more people to play FS?
good point.. or curb PvP transfer from high level bounty hunters who take easy rating from those who battled in their own level range and really earned it. I think that may help as well...

it took me some weeks before i was hooked on this game - can honestly say if, as a < 25 level player, i was regularly hammered in GvG or for gold or for ladder points i would have quit
I think this game would have a lot more players if it had the same sort of beginner protection that a lot of games have. e.g. have PVP off by default up to level 25 or for a certain number of weeks, but at any time a player has the choice of turning beginner protection off. Once it's turned off they can't turn it back on.
Otherwise people with few resources are easy targets, e.g. people who are in guilds without much decent gear or who can't raise fsp to get decent gear for whatever reason.

It's doing better than SS2!
Sure is. I think SS2 gets more flak than it deserves from within the FS community. With the variety of the different classes and more of a storyline than FS it's not too bad. I was glad when they added the repair kits.
I wonder how slaughterfests would go down if they were added to FS.. I'm not so sure we need another form of PVP, and it does favour people with fast connections, but variety and extra features are usually a good thing.

naw man when I started this game a year and half ago it was double the amount at least... maybe people have been buying stam gain... you have played for awhile Andy you dont see it?
When they started putting the number of online players, it was routinely around 3000.

i've seen people wearing an emmisary set who have been playing the game for months - level 5 to 10, who seem to just sign on to hammer other lower levels - if they get de-leveled it just extends the time the emmisary is effective - IMO a way-overpowered set for that level

I might be wrong but i think the game should have a fully detailed tutorial. Things like:
"Welcome to Fallensword. A tutorial will guide you in your first steps of the game."
"Look at the map you are in clicking...."
"You can walk around the map using..."
"you will meet hundreds of different creatures, you can attack them and gain gold and xp and items, for example attack this creature"
"Moves and attacks cost you stamina. You regain part of your stamina every hour, and you can also upgrade it clicking here"
"Congratulations you just looted your first item. You can equip it by clicking on it"
Easy steps but fully explained so that new players can have an idea of what they are doing.
At the end of tutorial: "you can now find a guild to join, searching here. Guilds will help with -list of benefit-"
A further step to keep them in game could be that after the full tutorial, since most likely at level 1 or 2 its a problem to find a good guild, they have an option to be automatically assigned to a guild.
"You can choose to join a guild or you can ask they system to find a guild for you"
They will spend 7 days in a random top 250, even top500 guild. In a special section of the guild (like 5 spots per guild, no additional cost, no additional members space, and cant be targeted in GvG). They can be kicked if the guild wants to do so. If they stay, after 7 days the guild has to choose: recruit in their ranks or let them go. In 7 days im sure they can have a full guidance through the gam by more experience players, and honestly, if you are lucky and are assigned to the top guild for a week, i doubt you would quit playing

Along with that, I'd just like to say that they shouldn't be apart of GvG or PvP (Xp loss or rating exchange) for a certain amount of time too.I agree, there should be a tutorial, players should be given a couple of thousand reserve stamina to get to grips with the game, and also, the amount of backpack spaces you get when you start should be increased.
and yeah, BP spaces at just three with how the game has evolved is a bit pitiful. 9-10 starting packs would be nice and would encourage them to try holding their own offline sets, at least.

Look at what has become of the game, what did people honestly expect? Did they truly think that all the people who had no interest in pvp would suddenly get into it? Because of a few rewards??

Now, I realise I am going to get flamed for this, but what did people expect when HCS started to turn FS into a more pvp oriented game? I'm sure some people will deny the correlation but in truth, I stopped my arguments a while ago, I figured I'd let the numbers speak for themselves.

The game started getting less popular 2 years ago (http://www.google.co... ... all&sort=0) and has been on a rather steady decline. Holiday season 2008 doesn't really coincide with any pvp related changes :?

You like pointing the finger at PvP as the cause of lower numbers online because you hate it. I would prefer to speculate that the decline started when the server problems were at their worst, when they would go down for days at a time. Now, I realise I am going to get flamed for this, but what did people expect when HCS started to turn FS into a more pvp oriented game? As far as the data presented at http://www.google.co... ... all&sort=0. That doesn't represent actual traffic by players on the FS game but only searches of 'fallen sword' on Google.
The only people that have the actual data that represents game traffic are the devs themselves I'm guessing. They are surely not going to disclose that info. Might as well ask for the Coke formula.
