The colors aren't bad, its not a total hodgepodge, but you can do better I think. When I'm struggling with a color palette I usually go to this site.

http://kuler.adobe.com

If you make a free (i think) account, you can make a color palette from a color. I then pick a color from my render and build from there. The triad setting can get you a nice mix of colors to use.

Soo the colors you chose weren't bad imo, but the monotone-ness behind them doesn't look as great. Does it look better with B&W and then the colors?

btw I prefer emphasizing colors instead of random brushing :P so maybe you can try that out a bit, just an idea

I dunno, maybe it just looks weird to me because there's a lot more blue than the other colors..

Oh well :)

Fist should be more like FIST.
The focal in my opinion should be FIST. Not eye. First glance, all the time is eyeball. The bs on his ring distracts. Purple and red are random and useless. I like monochromatic pictures. But I think this would be better of as:

Not monochrome.
Keep his hair orange and what not. Make eye deep blue. Focal will be his eye.

Keep monochrome.
Take the random coloured dots, sharpen fist blur face a bit. a bit.

This would look great if you could lose the red and orangey bits of lighting.

Particularly the orange on the side of his face by his ear looks odd.

Text, well, i'm not gonna mention it.

Love the rest of the avy though.
