It just takes practice and patience! You should see some of my older works, they are not much more than text slaps.
If you use Photoshop im happy to help and give some tips.

Graphics take time, and patience. Like snuggle, my first piece WAS a text slap - hell, my first 20 pieces were. Then I read some tuts, and got SLIGHTLY better. I practiced, and even now, after 2 years, my graphics still suck, but they're getting better. The point is, it takes time, don't give up!

Look at AAs stuff, most of it is a pile of crap.I do use photoshop but it seems no matter how hard I try at it I get a pile of useless stuff.
It just takes time and alot of work.

I've been trying to do graphics for practically a year, and most of my stuff still doesn't compare to Lich's or Grimmhawks. Some people just learn faster than others. Roan started graphics later than me, but is heck of a lot better than me now in my opinion.
Besides, everyone has a different style. I've been watching you while procrastinating and while your work still has a few kinks, you're on the right track
So do give graphics another chance. Even if it isn't at this exact moment, come back sometime and try again.
Patience is one of the key factors to graphics making

Actually I started with photoshop around 3yrs ago at school and been trying ever since.. Guess it just isn't for me.
Regardless, everything else I said still applies. You've been patient for three years, keep trying for another three!
Oh, and it doesn't hurt to try different methods of learning and graphic making. For me personally, I can't follow a sig tut even if my life depended on it! I just simply like to throw the render down and start doing a smudge here and there and scanning my ridiculous amount of c4ds. Eventually I might figure something out. If not, I save it and leave it for another day.
So try to find your way of learning. It can be different for everyone
But, if you've really decided to leave, then do visit time and again. It's nice to see old faces around here.
