We may look into running an official IRC server in the future.

I really don't see the point in that. This will ultimately lead to more problems as players try to control a game that ultimately should be peaking due to it's 'professional' development team not the people who play the game.

By it's very definition, 'playing a game' means to have fun, to enjoy. If the players have to put forward their input because the developers cannot see the faults themselves then it's a sad day.

Players are there to play, developers to develop, simple logistics.

The one thing hcs should have, and I am absolutely convinced of this, is a committed test team, committed to playing and testing the game to ensure releases come about that work and are relatively, if not completely, bug free at release.

To be fair, the new skills were handled pretty well and some good things have been introduced to the game.
It's the things that have not been addressed that seem to concern players the most. Issues that are there that should not be there, that is the biggest current problem and has been the problem for some time.

If those can be sorted out then perhaps the game has a future. It should be sorted out in house though, not by players who all have different ideas about things and how they should be done.

Every game relies on player input to make itself better. I've been a beta tester, coder and Admin on games ranging from simple browser to major mmorpg... without player input and feed back a game will not progress very far.

I disagree, perhaps a little feedback yes but not as far as major issues with the game are concerned, the devs should be on top of those and the issues should not even be happening. I could name countless games (if i was allowed) where you do not see the amount of errors occurring as they do here. The reason being because the devs of said games have a full on test team and don't allow those sort of bugs to get out in the first place. Perhaps minor bugs which get fixed quickly and promptly, but that sadly does not seem to be the case here.

I mention that in my post - it's the Internet Explorer issue. JT reckons it is just javascript and will be fixed on Monday, but I agree that it isn't brilliant.

This is the sorta thing that i refer to when i suggest that they should have a dedicated test team of staff (not just players).

Check the bottom post here:- viewtopic.php?f=1&t=101566

The player could not even access the quest! A player had to go there, find out is was not working then write on the forum that it was not working. This an all too familiar scenario of just one aspect of the game that happens far too often.

It is that sort of thing that needs addressing. Releasing new content is one thing, releasing it so it is working is another it seems. Both need to be in sync for the game to progress at anything near a professional standard level.

I forgot one thing that I could have mentioned. When I go to active topics like allot of us that visit the forums do, half the active topics are selling avatars. Dont get me wrong, there is many great avatar artists, but even I some times hate looking for a topic that needs addressed or updated. I assume that many things go unnoticed, because of this. I could be wrong though.

- Major display and combat issues when using Internet explorer (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=102077);

It's just a simple JavaScript error. It will be fixed either Today or Monday.

if it is so simple then why is it taking 3 days now to fix..and possibly more..the whole weekend with this major probelm still existing ??? the game is pretty much unplayable when the combat screen does not work...hello ?? fix this today please..not wait till monday

i guess i need to learn how to get 2 quotes in a post..still new at this..but that is not my comment saying it will be fixed today or monday..

So how is that fair to the to players that have hunted or will hunt with this issue?

Lets behonset very few player visit the forums, so they will never know about this until it happens to them.

Obviously it isn't - and I don't think I ever claim that it is. My first response to the player who highlighted the issue on the forums was to ask 'Have you submitted a ticket?'. I always take bug reports seriously and think they deserve a rapid response.

I think this can easily be changed to EVERYONE'S THOUGHTS. I know the vast majority of the forum folks will disagree with me, but in my opinion the demise of this once great game started when HCS skewed almost every aspect of the game towards PvP.

You'll get no argument from me there :) - PvP is the golden child it seems, at the expense of everything else in the game. Any other aspect of the game, you have a choice about whether you participate in it or not, but not PvP. Most other aspects of the game leave you alone, if you leave them alone - but no, PvP bites you on the butt whether you want it to or not. And, to add insult to injury, if you don't want it to, you get told to stump up an extortionate amount of FSP's to prevent that aspect from affecting your game. I would have to agree with you that the new PvP emphasis is driving players away - I know several who have left because of it, including at least one BIG donator ...

*waits for the inevitable Luis comment about PvP always being part of the game, suck it up, yada yada yada :) ... *

That is also an extremely valid point you make Pardoux. This has turned into more of a PvP game than a MMORPG. Luis can say all he wants, but he will not be able argue against the fact that other, non-pvp aspects of this game have been extremely neglected this past year or so. The new skills themselves prove that. I am fairly confident that I am up there among the people who have donated ridiculous amounts of money to this game, and lately I wonder why. That is not good for business, and I would not be surprised if this thread is locked later this evening. I guess all we can do is try to be as vocal as PvP'ers and hope HCS listens.

Edit #1: I have nothing against PvP as I partake in it as well. But I also partake in other aspects more than PvP, and this blatant disregard of those aspects from HCS is getting tiresome.

PVP was ignored by the devs for years. The recent increase in attention simply counter-balanced that.

Edit: Looking back, the thanks to JT seems kind of sarcastic. It isn't, dev feedback is always a good thing.

I really don't think even the PvP system is anywhere near as good as it used to be, while at the same time majorly upsetting a lot of people.

I've said it very often, this is a player inter-reactional game, and that brought far more involvement from players as they felt part of a real community of people, not just playing a game on their own. It started going downhill when inter-reactions were beginning to get policed, moderators taken of forum, and a reporting system encouraged, rather than having community matters dealt with by the community.

I think forum and IRC did use to work in the past, moderators did their job making it a pleasant place to visit. Some of the problems on the player-owned IRC have made a large dent in the amount of people willing to use that particular one, but as far as I have seen the alpha channel has been pretty clear of that.

As for mechanical problems, the VERY first one for me is the continual LAG, for the last weeks. And having been basically farming and titaning, movement is essential. There has been not the slightest mention about lag anywhere though.

Right now, a combatbatpage loads after 10 secs, and movement gets you looking at data transferred from cachefly, then huntedcows, then reading analytical whatnot, with the final 'you cannot move more than one square'.

Never knowing what is or isn't going to work doesn't help, testing the alpha version in itself I think is a good idea, I have no problem with it being players that do the testing, it does seem to interfere massively with the normal game though, and that's very irritating.

Hi RJEM,

Firstly, thank you for your feedback. The new map system has taken a lot of our time recently, but we feel it will be a great improvement to the game once all the bugs are fixed and we release it on the live servers.

We're working on the other code related issues you highlighted right now and the team will be releasing the next game content update next week.

I can assure you after the new map system is released we'll be making many more improvements to the game :)

Out of curiousity, is GvG going to be one of these many improvments to the game?

Hoof, glad you are back with us.

I also agree that the map interface will be a great improvement and playing field leveller, so I'm right behind you guys when implementing it.

My concern has been the seeming loss of focus on other updates which were never fully finished - so I hope that the coming weeks will see renewed dialogue to get those game areas back on their feet to go along with the fresh new look for the game.

The coding fixes are somewhat more urgent, so I hope the current downtime will resolve these for players like vamunre and yodamus who have been experiencing the issues. It's also good to hear that content is on the way for our top level members.
