gives an extra bonus if no one else is using the same gear as you are at the moment

PvP only. I think a good name for it would be: One of a Kind.

I'm thinking it would give an incentive to use some of the less popular items in the game.
Or even make those given out by the gods each day especially valuable.

(Nothing in it for me. I don't PvP.)

With the OG giving out the information as to which items are equipped, it would seem like it wouldn't be that bad to program.

That's a HELL of a lot of player checking for the code to do - and, for the buff to be "fair", it would have to be constantly checking. Interesting idea, but I think the "overhead" for it would be WAY too high ...

Actually the searching need not be heavy but their would need to be a database redesign.

An additional field would need to be created with a count of the number of players with the item equipped.

This field would need to be updated each time an item equipped or removed. So more writes at least.

No offense to HCS but we have enough database problems without adding addition fields. Quite probably many of our problems are due to patching an old model. Many fields have been added over the years. I do not think the database has been redesigned with each new version. For optimal results that would be necessary as well as reworking of most of the code.

Interesting... the guide already does have the # of each item equipped, how often does that update?
