and there is the problem Zukira,,, pvpers participate in all aspects of the game whereas the majority of the leveling community refuse to even consider trying all parts

Very true. It is one thing to consider and decide against, having tried it, another to not consider simply because it is there. Even if someone gives it a shot in a safer environment before they decide on something, it is an improvement. One of the reasons I like gvg and after a fashion arena is because they allow people to dabble and get their toes wet without having to dive right in. At least then they have a semi informed decision for having tried something with a hint of the 'flavor'.

For me, the decision not to PvP here was and always has been because the reward of it doesn't entice me like it does in other places where I do engage in PvP and liberally at that. The other places, the ones I choose to PvP in the rewards justify the risks I take. Here, for me at least, not so much. But I will do a gvg now and then for the fun of it, and I'm toying off and on with dabbling in arena, so its not like I'm foaming at the mouth screaming 'PvP is bad.

Guess in a nutshell what I've been trying to say is I hope the PvPers dont think all of us who choose to level hate you. We don't. We might get a little butt hurt when you decide to 'show some love' but most of us can get over that if given some time and we aren't being hammered on constantly.

Do you honestly think thats how the levelling community would see it

I think that HCS would have to have Tang remove that gold search feature from the FSH, but yes, besides it's what Hoof wants, not levellers. During the last IRC chat there was a HUGE showing of pvp oriented players, all pretty much parroting each other and backing each other up, they got some things they wanted, some things, like the BB update they tried to shout down but Hoof actually has a good 'outsiders' perspective when it comes to what is good for the *whole game*. Players getting annoyed/leaving because the amount they get attacked goes up by orders of magnitude = not really good for the game.

Ok, i can agree that a few players i have know have quit because of being hit, but should i start running down the list of WELL KNOWN players from the pvp community have left because this has went in a very short time from a PvP game to a leveling game? The leveling community is not as large as you people would like to think it is. there are more people that take part in pvp related aspects of this game then the mere 1% i heard earlier. Im willing to go out on a limb and say that the pvp and leveling communities are damn near pretty close in size. Yet its fine to make a decision to save a few levelers from leaving but yet again forcing more and more great pvp players from a already dwindling player base? THAT sounds like a really sound business idea to me. The simple fact is that PvP players keep the fallensword economy going. gold to FSP prices are dictated by mostly pvp players(players dumping for high prices to get rid of it faster). PvP players buy buffs several times a day, EVERYDAY, not just once or twice a week when they are ready to plod through the tedious task of 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8, PvP players buy gear from inventors, pvp players keep potion makers low on stock and making more, you just dont seem to understand that the pvp playing community is more important to this game than you think. Yet time and time again the developers keep treating levelers and pvpers as two sons, one liked, one not. Well i hate to tell you, but you treat one son bad long enough, and he will kill the other. The economy of this game is in the toilet, the player base is at an all time low, and you just satisfactorily pushed more players out with this give and take game you have been playing for months upon months now. i wish you all the best in your game as you lose all pvp players, 1000 players sit at EOC, and they bitch even more because they have nothing to do. GO SIGMA STORM 3!!!

Well i got hit and it wasn't for gold unless a level 700+ thinks 6k gold is a fortune, who knows but anyway i was offline, unbuffed as norm and wearing my epic gear which is made for offline; no challenge for pvp gear and buffs. So how is hitting me a challenge, sorry but its not and no one should get anything towards a medal for that lame hit.
That being said i want pvpers to to have their fun and if you want to attack me, it should be while im online and ready for it as the pvper is ready and buffed with pvp gear againts my leveling gear which is still unfair but at least give me a chance to defend (maybe done by an advanced warning message giving me time to prepare).
Do this and maybe us levelers may except it a lot better. No one in there right mind wants to be beaten but when im offline and asleep in bed i have no choice on that im afraid and no way to fight back. Solve this and there maybe room for both the leveler and the pvper in this game instead of all this unpleasentness going around. Just seems were going back and forth around and around in circles. Both sides need to be pleased and thats got to be good for all. Just my rubbish two cents as normal.

Idea for a broader/better fix. Medal tics only count if there person you hit has at least 1 prestige point. Meaning they have participated in pvp somewhat recently. Also gives a lot more targets then just the ladder.

Wouldn't work very well.

1. That PvPer would probaly still be buffed up. So the PvPer gets a free first hit and a chance to defend the retaliation.
2. This would probaly result in even more hits on the leveler. I've noticed that a lot of PvPers actually do care about being hit back (despite what their bio's says). The PvPer will probaly hit back two to three times and maybe even a bounty with some friends to hit as well. Then it comes to who has the most PvP friends. And that's the PvPer.

Where is the challenge for the PvPer in this? Robbing someone who can't defend? Very brave.

The gold theft medal makes more sence. PvPers wouldn't just hit offline guys with no gold and no PvP equipment if they didn't get those points for the medal. They would be going for big targets then. Players with more gold on hand. And players with a lot of gold on hand are usually more capable op defending themselves.

We've been listening to everyone's feedback regarding the PvP Smasher Medal / Top Rated and as such have changed it from normal PvP attacks to PvP Ladder and Bounty attacks only.

We realize that not everyone is interested in PvP and we feel this will make the medal more about PvP for those who are interested in it and not affect players who aren't.

So what this update means is that, No one can gain points towards their " Smasher Medal " by making " ANY PvP hits " that are done "off the bounty board"

An that the only way people can gain points towards their "Smasher medal" would be by restricting 100 stam attacks to the " Bounty Board and PvP Ladder " only...?

Well if that's the case and it seems that it is... You've in short just removed the " P " in PvP to accommodate half of the community and upset the other half... ?

In no way am I trying to upset you Hoof or give our devs/admins a difficult time, but really I feel if you had listened early on, their was a far easier compromise offered out that many people accepted. Just lower the cost for people to lock their XP and lower the cost for PvP Protection.

This seems to be another sad update for those of us who PvP.... and in addition a very poor compromise from our game leaders... I am gonna give this update a " THUMBS DOWN" with all do respect to everyone and their very much varied opinion.

Finally, we've also been discussing the developer chats and due to the number of users having problems connecting to IRC, we have decided to host the next developer chat within the game so more players will be able to join in! We'll post on the news once we have decided when the next chat will be scheduled.

~ The Fallen Sword Team

I will give this part of the update a " THUMBS UP" I think this is long over due, I think that this is wonderful given the idea it can happen... Great idea, and Good job with this section of the update Hoof and HCS !! =)

Little old me here posting a thought: I thought the purpose of the smashing medal was to reward those PvP players who didn't necessarily like playing the ladder or doing bounties. It was supposed to revive normal PvP (which I think we have to admit it did quite well). Now, the medal that was meant to be an alternative to the ladder or bounty medal has now itself become a ladder or bounty medal. Is it just me, or isn't that a little counter intuitive? Not to mention PvP normal style has evaporated again.

I also never got hit during the 48 hours of mayhem, so to all those who got hit, maybe you're doing something wrong

Well i was happy with the game for a day and a half. thanks to all the whiny little babies im now very disappointed and back on my way out the door on the game. Thanks for giving us something then taking it away yet again because people cant grasp that they play a pvp game. yet again disappointed in your lack of intestinal fortitude, to make a change and damn the players that whine. but whatever its your game so have fun playing it..............

I don't think they do ... otherwise they would see how horrible an idea it would be to make farming medals on the BB a good idea.

It blurs the line between mercenary hitter to delevel you and a medal hunter. So the only people that will get bountied are mercenary hitters, medal hunters, and late starters.

its just plain old stupid logic to listen to only 1 group of players. they say they listen to ALL feedback yet ALL changes made to this game favor levelers over PVP players EACH AND EVERY time. im done, tired of the lack of backbone of the developers to tell the levelers to get over themselves and quit all their mindless bitching. "we dont like to get hit!!!" WAAAAAA

In all fairness post's such as this and future ones will be very difficult to discredit... HCS was very clear in seeing how the community was divided over theses changes. By using the word " Divided " I mean literally almost 50% of the community in fallensword was in support of theses ideas, and almost 50% of the community was against theses ideas.

This being acknowledged by our Devs, by Hoof him self, and by HCS as a whole it is very sad to see an update such as this... The game was half for and half against. HCS decided to make a decision that they felt would be a compromise for all (which is nice and honorable)... However... this is a terrible compromise as it appears (and only appears) that HCS has just sold the PvPers down the river... in order to please those who dislike PvP altogether... So we will continue to see more posts in this thread and also in future threads related to PvP until PvP is finally no more, until everyone departs from this game and on to another, or .... until a truly fair compromise can be reached within the game.

I truly hope this update is changed. I also hope that a different compromise can be suggested or put fourth that will really please everyone. Regardless at the risk of how this post sounds, I really do support HCS I just feel this was a bad decision nothing more.

"pvpers" are less than 1% of the community

Is this fact?

How do you know? I wouldn't think so... did you so just how active the bounty board was two days ago? Is that 1% of the game at work? 7, 8 pages of bounties and rising? Interesting...

1% of the active players only would participate in PvP, be it a large or small amount of the time?

To me that sounds completely taken out of the hat, and looking at the poll with 45% of the people in favour of a more active PvP seems to prove you wrong there, too.

Changes like this might make that to be a future result though, with maybe just 100 players online at any time.

I have been hit three times, less than 20% of a level, if I hit back only once, and go to level with prestige i will get some of that back too.

If the honor buff had worked, and we had all known of the Smasher medal going live, the loss would have been down to maybe 15% of a level, how is that an insurmountable affront?

I hope you like a dead game to level in, a lot of people have been waiting for some kind of change, having been given it then taken away again, will make a lot of them throw in the towel.

thats not completely true. i hit everyone, did before the medal came by, am going to now that the medal has left. and i do respect being hit back, and encourage it. not so i may get retribution, so i know i hit someone who has a little self pride to want to protect themselves or give back as good or better than they got. not all pvp players are this maniacal monster that you have painted him/her to be. and there is no challenge in stealing a hunters gold, i often do it unbuffed. they can add a thievery medal if they like, but i prefer they dont because the gold i take is payment and recognition i deserve for that. however, if im 100 stam hitting people off the board, for whatever reason i deem needed(usually gold), and risking 5 levels 10-30 times a day. yeah, i should get some recognition for that, in this case the smasher medal. i mean honestly, there is no skill involved in leveling whatsoever, yet leveling can net you what 3 medals all by itself?

We felt that making this change to the PvP Smasher Medal / Top Rated was better than removing it.

The community seemed split on whether the medal in it initial form was a good or bad, so we felt this change was a good compromise.

With all due Respect Hoof... We know you and many of your staff are reading this forum... You can't help but understand our point of view on this subject... Anyone that PvP's you just pretty much sold down the river, with... mind you less than 48HRS notice or talk... Of course people will think to leave the game, of course people will be upset... The polls were almost 50/50 you saw that your self... You picked a side... You did not compromise... you picked a side nothing more nothing less in my opinion... <------ It pains me to say that as well... :(

Still wondering... is there still a plan to limit ladder hits to only 5 x 100 stams per target?

Its *opt in* so..with this update restricting abilities to gain the medal.. theres no reason to place limitations on the ladder again.

I love smashing bounties on those who deserve it, but i also love swinging for the fences in the ladder. let those who opt in smash each others brains out without limits.

Hoof? anyone?

There is a lot of QQ ing going on. and fun as it seems no one has yet dared touched my

"i see is that most pvp players complain about pvp being (spellchecked) dead. here is where i laugh at that. Pvpers wish to prey on others who do not wish to pvp.
If you seriously like your pvp and wish to show dominance over others. attack other known pvpers."

maybe it got lost in my boring message.....

hello, earth to pvpers there are plenty of you guys to kill each other. why aren't you doing it????
maybe if you can show HCS why you need to lump everyone into your part of the game maybe you will get some more clearance to profit and get rewards from farming non pvpers

Leaving the smasher medals as it was would have been picking a side as well. they didn't get rid of it, it's still there. Just now the levelers get something of what they want to. it's a compromise

Sorry but I didn't see where I painted out the PvPers to be ''monsters''. Futhermore I said some not all PvPers.

A lot of PvPers talk about being a ''real PvPer''. Most PvPers have different opinions about what that is. I've never meet an answer which could be called correct.

You say you risk 5 levels 10-30 times? I wouldn't say that you do that 100 %. How often do you actually get deleveled 5 times for a hit? Not very often. Yes a leveler you hit could get you deleveled 5 times. But most levelers just like leveling and don't want to go all the way to get you deleveled 5 times. Once again: A lot of PvPers tends to respond with lot of extra hits if they get hit alot in a bounty. If you want the levelers to accept being hit by PvPers then the PvPers should maybe have a better chance. NO I'M NOT SAYING THAT THEY CAN'T DEFEND THEMSELVES. But for many levelers it simply ain't worth it! Want to get levelers to accept being hit? Make it worth it for them to hit back.

A lot of PvPers have also been whining about going to the Bounty Board now where other PvPers can get points for the smasher medal from 100 stamming on the board. I'm almost ready to bet that some of those PvPers have a section in their bio stating that they do not care about being hit back or being bountied. Whining and not caring at the same time aren't really possible. (guess you can if you want to). So where are the ''PvPers'' in those guys? Nowhere if you ask me.

Our part of the game? It's part of the game period, not just ours. Id like to hear from the so called levelers why they refuse to play the whole game and then come unglued when another player does?

I would like to see a Poll for a Gold Thief Medal, Possibly an in game poll.

there is no point to it friend, it would just end up 50/50 again

Well we can only try. I see more players getting behind a Gold Thief Medal then the Smasher medal . Gold Thiefing is PvP, as long as its done right. Player must have over a certain amount, you get extra points for jack potting etc.... something like that.

Firstly... I like the "Smashing Medal" I also hope HCS returns it to how it was. That being said an additional medal for stealing gold is a great idea, however this idea should NOT be a substitute for the Smashing Medal. That being said I hope everyone is aware of the fact that Master Thief and Thievery only kick in about 0.10 of the time... So I agree anyone gaining points towards that medal would be 1 amazing, 2. given how HCS has just agreed to have everyone get Smashed and have everyone merc out on each other ... I think is super duper challenging if not all out craziness.

Perhaps I'll take a look at how someone who levels plays this game instead, however no need to donate for such a cause lol buffs are usually free to level in my house/guild, there is no rush for me to get anywhere, and besides Hoof single handed destroyed PvP ... LOL so I'll log in from time to time watch the grass grow aka stam and just level and see where things go... No need for me to lose crazy levels cause I gold hit someone with 5 million gold on hand and only got 200 k and a 5 level loss for going to the bounty board and helping someone get a Merc Medal cause that's all this has become now that real PvP was removed from it...

Just my thoughts, ...
