And, you think I broke the rule? Don't go to the Graphics community. You might have a hernia from their signatures, beautiful as they are. :)

Actually, most of the artists forget that you're supposed to only have a signature that is 200x500 height for images, or 2 that come up to the same or less. Those of us who remember but can't choose use rotating signatures.

Individually your signatures are fine hbk, but together, stacked they're technically out of bounds - a lot of people do this but they don't get in trouble for it until someone complains. Using a site like http://sig.grumpybumpers.com/ to put them on a rotation (random chance of any you have on your list there popping up on a page load) allows the best of both worlds; multiple signature images and not running the risk of being outside the size limits.

Now, back on topic:
Animated avatars. I don't care for them, won't do them, most are either tacky, overdone, or as others have said, have the potential to induce seizures. Once in a blue moon you see one that is well done and where the animation adds to the picture and is tasteful. Those are few and far between. Someone should spank Shardoom for starting this fad with his little blue dude avatar. (he'd like it too much though)

Thankfully I don't use firefox most of the time for fs anymore so I don't have to worry about seeing them just yet.

Honestly I enjoy really well done animated sigs and avis..... sadly for every one of those there are 10 bad ones. I realize that it would be unfair to just ban bad ones (though I am all for the idea), but because there are more bad then good i think they should be removed. As for the market I would be perfectly fine if people sold GOOD animated avatars for 3-10 fsps. Most artists charge that much and personally i spend at least an hour on any piece of work, I dont think some animated avatars take that much time and they range from 10-50 fsps

Sorry but Photobucket decided to take down my Signature.

See, I didn't know I could cycle them that way. :) Thank you Zukira. I will get right on that!

Edit: Fixed.

Honestly, I don't think the animated avatars should be allowed. They take too much time to load and could put certain people under risk of seizure. Plus, they are just generally unpleasant.

Now that they are in the game how would you propose HCS get rid of them and how would HCS compensate players who have them / paid fsp for them ? Big headache...no?

There is also the bigger picture here which unfortunately you do not have the foresight to see. The animated avitar is a new marketplace and has opened another avenue for players to make some FSP. With this being the case there may well be some players who have decided to stay with FS rather than quit as they are now able to make some much needed FSP because they can create and sell animated avi's.

Player retention is a good thing.....right?

To the first paragraph, you hit it on the nail when you said that it was my opinion. It was only a thought. I'm not calling a witch hunt out on animated avatars. I just generally don't like them.

To the second paragraph, this "marketplace" you speak of is actually quite a farce. It's taking away business from honest avatar makers who spends loads of time on their art. They sell them for around 3-10 FSP, which is quite reasonable for the work involved. But, these animated avatar makers sell theirs for.. I've seen it range from 25 to 50 FSP. Which is ridiculous. Half the time, they are a moving text slap. Ask anyone from the Graphics community how long it would take to make one.

Third, yes it is. But, earning FSP does not entail player retention. Its the community and content that matters.
Trust me, I spent tons of time making the Mentor System along with Zukira. That's what helps player retention.

/end rant.

Thank you for your reply, please allow me the courtesy to respond.

You say you are not calling for a *witch hunt* on animated avitars yet you suggested that they shouldn't be allowed. So what would you call it? You could try....Extermination.

Basically what you are calling for is a form of censorship on something that has no need to be censored unlike some bio's I could mention.....

So the creator's of animated avitars aren't honest, why? Have they found a sneaky animated avitar creator way of conning players out of FSP that I didn't know about? Taking business away from the static avitar maker is not dishonest its merely competition, the book Economics for Beginners may help you understand this.

If you don't like the product or the price is to high.....guess what, you don't need to buy it!

Finally, how do you know what does and does not entail player retention. How very naive you are to think that community and content is all that matters.

Q. "Hi there, heard you were quitting the game just wanted to let you know we have a great community and content want to stay?"
A. " No, can't afford too."

Q. "Hi there, heard you were quitting the game, want me to show you how to create *good* quality animated avitars so you can sell em and earn FSP to help your character?"
A. "Wow that be awesome, your the greatest wil72, I'm staying with FS."

I never said "earning FSP entails player retention. I made the suggestion that earning FSP would definitely help retain players I never suggested it guaranteed it. Yes FS is a game but players still live in the real world. Well at least I hope so.

Ok, so correct me if I am wrong, but everybody has a certain degree of freewill, both in the game and outside of it, yes?
Okie dokie.

This means that people have the following choices:
1) To buy an animated avatar
2) To buy a non-animated avatar
3) To negotiate a price for an animated avatar
4) Similarly, to negotiate a price for a non-animated avatar
5) To CREATE/SELL EITHER animated, non-animated or EVEN (imagine this!!!) BOTHHH!! :o (therefore opening up a market for those who have so far done non-animated avatars because it has been the only option, therefore NOT cheating them out of anything but ACTUALLY opening up MORE OPPORTUNITIES for them)
6) To look at a person's avatar
7) How long to look at a person's avatar
8 ) To have an opinion about a person's avatar
9) To express their opinion on said avatar
10) To ask if anyone shares their opinion on said avatar
11) To agree OR disagree with a person regarding an avatar and express THEIR opinion too
12) The right/choice to contact HCS and ask have they considered the POSSIBLE health issues regarding animated avatars
13) If the HCS say they HAVEN'T considered the POSSIBLE health risks, ask why not, ask them to, and if you feel the need, seek legal advice.
14) If the HCS say they HAVE considered the POSSIBLE health issues, hence why they are even in the game, people have the choice to:
15) MOVE THE FUDGE ON AND GET OVER THEMSELVES AND THEIR OPINIONS THAT NOT EVERYONE SHARES, AND ACCEPT THE LATTER FACT!!

Its all based on our individual choices and free-will!! Or, if you don't believe in free-will and that everything is pre-determined..well in THAT case you're buggered xD nah, if you believe THAT then blame whatever force determines your actions, not other people just because you don't have independence over your actions.

Jeeeeez..really? Are we REALLLYYYY debating this?
Do you really think the HCS are stupid enough to not abide by the hundreds of regulations out there, the hundredssss of HEALTH AND SAFETY regulations about safe and unsafe content?!?!?! You REALLY think they are that stupid, that untrustworthy? THAT willing to be fined or possibly forced to close down?
Really?
People ask "Do you believe there are intelligent life forms on other planets?"
My answer: I'm not even sure there are intelligent life forms on THIS planet *facepalm*

Animated avatars look bad. Makes some people lag etc etc. there ugly and should not be allowed. Anyhow just have an option in game where they don't animate or ban them all together. As zukira said her self they do have potential for a seizure.

they do have potential for a seizure.

Then why would they be allowed? xD I'm serious. I doubt HCS are stupid enough to risk going against regulations, ESPECIALLY ones as serious as Health and Safety Regulations xD

Althoughh, the way it looks to me is, a few people think they ARE stupid enough. Just the way it looks *shrug* :)

Also, xkingx, which area of the Health and Safety sector are you experienced/qualified in? :) Me? I have a St John Ambulance Qualification, and using the experience I've gained and knowledge I've learnt I very much doubt anybody, even those with photosensitive epilepsy, will have a seizure/fit :) I'm sure the HCS will know more, why don't people contact them and ask?
That way, people would get a straight answer AND, people wouldn't have to listen to others moaning.
After all, this forum IS for CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM isn't it? And not whining like children?
I'm sure one of the Game Administrators said something similar to that somewhere...:)

It wasn't our intention to allow animated avatars in the game, however with the addition of allowing PNG format, it is possible to upload images in APNG format (Animated PNG) which in some browsers that don't support the format will display as a static image, whereas in ones that do, it will display the animation.

We will be changing the code tomorrow to prevent players uploading animated avatars and we'll also remove any avatars which are currently animated.

Thanks so much Hoof. I'm so pleased I will no longer have to put up with these hideous avatars each time I view a profile. :)
