PvP protection, to me, is the best decision this game ever made.
I personally think it's UNFAIR (yes, you read that right) that I have to pay to stay out of a game component that others want to drag me in to all the time.
I don't want to PvP. Never have. I want to play a D&D-style game that allows me to make friends and play make-believe. PvP is what other players want, and I've NEVER said they shouldn't be able to. Go right ahead. But you won't just leave people out if they ask (in fact, by reading bios it seems a matter of pride to IGNORE what people put in their bios or request in PMs) so the actions of PvPers leave non-PvPers with only one recourse: buying protection.
Now you whine about protection.
If we're never going to have PvP become truly optional (as in-- FREE TO CHOOSE), then allow me a thought: Make protection only available for 28 days. Either players shell out the 100 FSPs or they're stuck without protection. I suspect a lot of people using PvP protection are already using it for 28 days at a time, but it'll cut down on those wanting to use it to scavenge or just wishing to invent/forge for a day.
As for theft rates... this has gone 'round and 'round in another thread. Increase, decrease, whatever. As long as we recognize it's purely about greed and not trying to claim anything about helping the market.
If you think the bounty board is too much of a punishment then start that thread and get feedback on that.
Leaving the attacked party with 50% of their gold seems fine. Clean them out and this game will dry up. Then you'll REALLY have no one to hit. :wink:
You find it unfair that you have to pay to opt out of pvp, yet you still choose to do so.

dragging you into pvp all the time, how so?
Most player's I've seen with protection buy it 1 day at a time, during leveling sprees etc. Only the Richer often buy the full 28 days. Buying protection while leveling would most likely be due to wanting to hide gold, the most alluring part to pvp in this game.
Stam is gained Free, gold is gained Free, players attempt to *rob* this free gold.
How is wishing to
promote pvp in this game, by increasing the possible gain from thieving, being greedy? The current Risk vs Reward is terrible, ask anybody.
It's well known, I would love to see protection removed, and more players use the bounty board to handle transgressions and issues. I'll humor you tho, cheapen protection, and either allow only 28 days protection or None, BUT only if gold isn't protected, and IF a protected player chooses to pvp or gvg in any form, they lose that protection. ( since they are attacking another player)
