To progress in farming xp even close to reasonably, you MUST make the coarse cloth, converting jute to cloth.  It is still painfully slow, though.

If you want to level farming quicker sheer the domestic shigra. Take the wool from that farm some jute and make the coarse cloth. You get farming exp from all that plus you will have the cloth to help level tailoring.

Farming isn't so bad, it just seems that way because the experience is spread out.  5 exp for shearing, 5 exp for manure, 5 exp for tending the field.  If you just want skill to 10, farm jute and make coarse cloth.  One properly farmed seed gives 24 jute, so that makes 12 cloth @ 5 exp each.  Or you could plant food and work the apprentice quests.  Shouldn't take too long (20 farming here).
