I especially love when they just join the game and try to tell me that I need to max my structures and how to run my guild...

I like it when players im trying to recruit (that are new) tell me to sell my gear and donate all the fsp to the guild and say i dont need the gear i have and i should get by with crappy gear.

I know this is all off-topic of the original post, but I just have to comment on some stuff posted in this thread.

Many are unnecessary I agree. But there is a secondary purpose to structures. Recruiting. Many Players within FS will/still look at a Guild structures as its position of strength within the game. Having good structures at max upgrade may help a Guild recruit players.

Unfortunately this is true. I had downgraded structures quite a while back to only 3 basics [Endurance for the +15 stamina per hour, Guild Registrar for equipment, and Military Advisor for group stats (which really isn't needed, but is cheap and convenient)]. It saves a lot of gold for a small guild or guild of lower-level players who do not get much gold. However sometimes new players see a guild only has a few structures, and thinks they're not good enough due to this, and would rather join a guild with every structure available, all maxed. This of course further hurts smaller guild who have difficulty recruiting anyway. And then even with only these 3 structures, the new players don't pay for "their share" of the upkeep due to low gold accumulation rate. Why should we max everything just to look good, and then go bankrupt? No thanks.

Lol - that's true too - and, funny aint it, they've JUST started the game, but wanna have exclusive access to all the epics they can wear (which, theoretically, they should know nothing about) and leave if they can't ...

I think the days of "what can I do for my guild" have, in a lot of cases, been replaced by "what can you do for me ? - why should I join you rather than them"

Not only Epics, but many (not all; I have found a few good ones that understand sharing) that expect to grab items out of the guild store and keep them equipped 24/7. Um no, we share!  Do your 5 minutes of hunting (with Doubler 750 and only 1000 stamina!), and then put the gear back in the store for the next person, because there are multiple people in the level range for the items.  Again, this is not all new players, as like I said I have found some good people who accept the fact that they are borrowing gear at no cost, but there are also many greedy players joining the game (who do not last in my guild if they cannot share guild-owned gear). They want everything for nothing. They do not realize that all the equipment in the guild was donated by a member in the past, and does not become exclusive property of whoever grabs it out of the store first.

I don't know how many times I have PM'd new players (as in like, day 1 or day 2 accounts), and ask them if they would like to join a guild, and rather than get a reply of something like "Sure! Thanks for being so kind as to accept a newbie. I will try to be an asset to your guild." receive instead "What does your guild have to offer?" or "What will your guild provide me?" (or some gibberish that translates into that).  *sigh* The good old days are long gone...

The good old days are long gone...

For the most part, unfortunately, I have to agree ...

Gone are the days of "there's no I in team"  ...

Of course, it doesn't help that some guilds are more than happy to give new players everything they want in the hope that it will create guild loyalty in the future. All that does is just reinforce the "give me, give me" mentality ..

Eddie Izzard : The National Rifle Association say that guns don't kill people, people do. But I think the gun helps, you know ? I think it helps. I think just standing there going "BANG" - that's not going to kill too many people, is it ?

I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but it seems that everything I eat lately turns to poo ...

Oh I know... which is why when recruiting low level players, I prefer to go for the "newborns", rather than the "toddlers" (who have been in other guilds). The brand new ones don't know that there are some guilds that are so well-established and well-off, and so wanting to get more powerful, that they will give them anything they ask for. I just can't do that, so I need players with a good ethic of wanting to help out and be willing to share the gear they're using for free.

In my opinion, grabbing onto brand new players and helping them with advice and learning how to do things for themselves, with a bit of shared gear, makes better players than giving them everything. It's like teaching children to work and be as self-sufficient as possible, with only a little help now and then, as opposed to spoiling them rotten and then them thinking life will always be like that.

Yup - political correctness, whilst "nurturing" kids at school does NOTHING to prepare them for life in the real world. It's gone WAY overboard when kids have a race and no-one loses - they're the winner and the non-winner. I really do worry for the up-coming generation that are gonna leave school, molly-coddled to hell and back, and then wonder what the hell happened when they enter the workplace.

Throwing a hissyfit, insulting your boss, storming out of the job - that won't get 'em a token slap on the wrist or a detention, it puts 'em back into the unemployed pool.

Whilst I've a lot of respect for most teachers, the environment they're forced to work in and the rules they're forced to work within are, quite simply, ludicrous.

But, soapbox moment over, we return you to your regular channel :)

It's already hard to make it in this game...this idea would have a negative effect on the game.

This is one of the better threads I've read in some time.  Sensible discussion, give and take arguement.  (I had to double check everyone WAS talking about FS)  What worries me about yet another gold sink, is that it might drive the economy from a dual gold-fsp one into an fsp only.  This would really discouraged new members.

I came to the guild scene late (a little more than 4 years as a solo player)  But I take guild membership seriously.  I get extra stam gain AND extra stamina, and I appreciate it.  Like the good old days, I donate gear, gold, and fsp to the guild. Not because I have to but because i enjoy being in a better guild.  Luckily we have a majority of the members who feel the same way.  But there's been a bunch who come in, peruse the store and leave.  I've kept track of a couple of them, I believe they could be called guild hoppers at this point.  I think what's more important than the gold sink right now, is how to start a new player off correctly and keep them playing that way. (and perhaps teach them the word "share" :D )
