Hello, I just installed this in chrome browser running ubuntu 13.04 64 but with oracle java 8, game runs great but there is absolutely no sound. There was sound in a test I did with Java 7 but performance sucked. Same results in firefox

I have exactly the same problem.

Was glad to finally get great FPS but there is no sound at all.

I get sound when i play Mincraft for example so its not a general problem.

My system information:

$ java -version

java version "1.8.0-ea"
Java™ SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0-ea-b108)
Java HotSpot™ 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.0-b50, mixed mode)

Archlinux: 64Bit

I hope we can fix this so i can finally come back and play the game. :)

Greetings

That helps greatly, I'll get the engine guy, Cowboy, to take a look at it.

Glad i can help.

I did some digging myself, looks like the java applet does not find a suitable sound device but i don't know why.

At least i can say that it is not a general problem with java applets. Other applets work, at first i thought it might be a permission problem but i'm not sure about that anymore.

Feel free to ask for more debug info, i'm a software developer myself so i can handle it. ;)

Greetings

When HCS fixes this, I will have one less reason to boot into Windows.   :)

Now to uprev Java from 7 to 8...

UPDATE: After updating to Oracle Java 8, the visual performance is superb, equal to Windows  (it was pretty bad before - really only usable for in-town activities); and yes, there is no sound at all.  I am very much looking forward to a fix for this.

Actually, there is one other issue I have noticed in Linux - the cursor color.

In Windows, the custom cursor is metallic/silver-colored and easy to see on most backgrounds.

In Linux, the cursor is seems to a shade of bronze (but still metallic), and is very similar to the tan/brown colors of  dirt floors, brown carpets, etc.   It is easy to lose track of it, especially when trying to make rapid action motions, like in combat.   This was a real PITA when I was doing the Crimson Stronghold.

Cool that's good news. I'd expect the java guys broke it somewhere as I didn't change anything in the sound engine :) my favourite bug, not mine. It's also great the performance has picked up on Linux, it was always down to their alpha image rendering and other bits so it's cool to tick another platform off for being pretty solid :)
